Hi Psyborg.
Thanks for you candor. I can appreciate when people speak what they mean, it really helps get the point across.
A few things about me. I have been an R/C enthusiast for over 20 years. I am WELL versed on the laws and regulations in this hobby (I am speaking on them at my local community college actually) and am an AMA member, a member of my local flying club (AMA registered) and worked for the federal government for almost a decade after my uniformed service was over. I say this, because I am not new nor ignorant to the laws and problems facing the hobby at this time.
Having said all of that, I HAVE flown this system before, however, since it is now out of date, I was looking for options instead of putting an EOL system in my craft.
I do own and have flown FPV. Yes, I am aware that flying FPV is, by the letter of the law, illegal. I am also aware, that it is illegal in my home state of Texas as well. Lastly, I choose to break these laws anytime I put my goggles on and fly, as does every pilot anywhere. Lets call it an act of civil disobedience.
Last year at this time, my truck, containing ALL of my radio systems, FPV system, and a few aircraft (among other personal items) was stolen, and I lost almost $5000 in flying gear. I have since been able to replace my primary goggles and my transmitter. Hence the resurgence of my interest in flying.
What I am looking for, is not an entry level conversation about how to fly an aircraft. The Cessna is FAR from my first plane, and my previous crash that resulted in minor injury, was the result of a mechanical failure of a servo, not one of pilot error. I made every step to reconcile with the individual.
Please do not take my words as dismissive nor arrogant, this is literally how I speak every day. I just want to make clear the nature of my request. I am looking for technical guidance with the APM 2.6 mega respectively, or experience with a confirmed automated system successor, such as the Pixhawk2 or or a derivative there in.
The DIY drone community has archived the APM section as it is EoL and there is no discussion on it from that point.
Lastly, the safety and longevity of this hobby is at the forefront of my every decision, every time I charge my batteries in a fireproof case, to when I remove my props to work on my planes.
I understand we have never met, and you had no way of knowing my experience as a pilot, and added that as a blanket statement, however, I err to say that future such introductions might behoove requesting such information, instead of making an assumption, especially to the contrary.
Thank you for the link, I will certainly reach out in the appropriate arena!
Clear skies and tailwinds!
