... or the flite fests could be moved closer together so more people can come, it would require a longer drive for some but it would help most people come.

This is actually the opposite of what would happen. Multiple events further from a central location allow more people to come from the edges of the continent to an event. More centrally located events would include more of the people that could already make it to an event and make it that much harder for the outwardly located individuals to go.

I was bummed that I found out about FFW last year AFTER it had happened; I was up in the area a week later, so my wife could visit her family, and I could attend Maker Faire in the Bay Area. I was kind of hoping there'd be another one in the same area this year, or even further south, but unfortunately, it didn't happen, and it doesn't look like it WILL happen this year. :(

I still think there's some areas in Orange County (like the former El Toro air base, where they have the blimp hangars) that would be awesome to have an event, but I can't imagine that they'd like people camping there through the weekend, or bringing in gas planes and creating all sorts of noise. :(

FFW 2018 Location Suggestion Indio, CA Empire Polo Grounds

Empire Polo grounds are home to several large outdoor music festivals each year to include the likes of Stage Coach and Coachella music festival.

Empire Polo Grounds are large with manicured turf lawns, lakes, camp grounds, tented and indoor event space plus many other amenities. A not to distant drive for all of Southern California, AZ and NV residents. Really it is the ideal space if not for the price maybe to rent it. Very similar to FF event spaces on the east coast I would believe.

While this spot is very feasible it would have to be in like November/December. I know this because i live nearby. It's the only time of year where it's cool enough and not very windy. There does happen to be an AMA field near that location with ample space but since not all of us like to fly 80" + balsa warbirds I doubt they'd go for it
