Half a channel?

I keep seeing this ad on Facebook for these cheap models. At lot of them say 3.5 channel.

What is a half channel?

Are they referring to the LED control?

If so that leaves 3 channels for pitch, roll, yaw and throttle. How is that possible?

I wasn't planning on buying one, just need to know... So confused.

I had one a while back, and I believe the half channel was for pitch, since it was controlled by throttle. Often times pitch is slaved with throttle to avoid higher cost per unit. So there is throttle, yaw, roll and half of pitch since you cant go backwards.
