Not to bad out of the box. I'm going to paint her Orange, White and black.

My son wanted green but to hard to see. Specially since it is a some what small plane.

I was not the only pilot having issues today.

Next flight I will stick closer to the camera.

Orange you glad I didn't say Banana?

Pretty basic paint job.
IMG_8006.JPG

Mixed some orange up and used the air brush.

The black is done with a foam brush using acrylic paint. It went on ok but I did not want to ruin the body so opt'd not to do anything there. Just the wing to help with direction.
IMG_8009.JPG

Left all the control surfaces white. I felt on the last plane the foam/paper weakened when I painted it.

Left under tip is black while the right is white. Helps with directional id.

Looks good, orange should show up good against a grey or blue sky, not to mention the white snow! well done!

My wife thinks I need to add more black strips to help the body and top of the wing "pop". I will try that today. Should be able to paint over top of the orange. Specially since I just brush the black on.

Will have to think about this for the 48 as well.

Good idea I just found the cold/wet the tape lifted. So I'll mask off the lines, brush on the black and then seal over it.

Far from good but good from afar ;)

Ahh, ok. What kind of tape were you using? that makes a difference as well as what you are putting it on; bare foam, paper, minwaxed paper, etc.
Paint is better for longevity in any case, so go for it!

$Store foam board with paper and min waxed for sure.

Other wise it would never last.
Good news is I was at the store and found orange paint/artist acrylic. Now I don't have to custom mix.

Love how inexperience this hobby is.

My son absolutely lite up when he saw the eyes. He had been a little disappointed with the orange vs green but I explained why we needed super bright colours.

Now he thinks the rocks.

Looking forward to the next flying day. Suspect that will be boxing day ;)

Snow is a real issue this year.

The skis need some adjustment as you'll see in the video but other wise the trainer did really well in the high winds today.

I need to make some adjustments to the paint by adding more black to the top of the left wing and left side of the rudder.

The skis moved around on landing and then the snow interfered with the velcro but that was a minor problem.

IMG_8288.JPG

Nose took some damage from the hard surface landing.

IMG_8289.JPG

A little hash on the wing ends.

IMG_8290.JPG

I will add the springs to the skis to prevent them from becoming air brakes.

IMG_8291.JPG

And will paint the wing to help me see the director of travel better.

Used the J1 as a FPV test plane today.

A friend flew while I viewed from goggles.
Very interesting but the prop is rather distracting.

The J1 keeps rolling.
I did bang her up trying FPV, made some repairs but today she was the star.
When all my other planes retired this afternoon due to crashes and other issues
the J1 was outstanding handling some high winds and flying super well.
