Congratulations!!! I hope all went well. Great feeling isn't it. King of the skies!

I lost my GPS and comm radio on my first cross country. Paper maps VOR and ADF saved the day! I was texting my instructor to let him know I was inbound but radio was not needed at that field anyway.

What were you flying? Looks like a low wing Piper?

Yup, PA28-181, I have my PPL check ride next Thursday (19th) then I'll start my instrument training in a 172 with the G1000. The Archers have the G500 and dual GNS 430's. A bit spoiled

Congrats!

Are you allowed to do that?

At my school instructors need to be reachable by call or text while their student is on a solo cross country.

During my ground school we took a tour of the control tower. The lead flight controller told us outright that if comm is lost, call the tower and ask for a clearance. All they want to do is get everyone on the ground safely. You will never hear me say anything bad about ATC.

I wouldn't go around texting all of the time. Simple rule: do whatever is the safest thing to do. When you are solo, you are pilot in command and you make the decisions.

Sorry I hijacked your post a little. I'm jealous man. The 1960 Cessna 175 Skylark did not exactly come equipped with a glass cockpit. My glass is courtesy of Mr. Android.

No worries, for my multi engine training I'll be in the Piper Seminole with the good ole' 6 Pack. It's not all fancy glass here. but that should be about 50hrs of the 250 i'll finish training with so not too bad.
