- Build Plan (PDF, AI, etc.)
For the 2018 Flite Test Forum Community Challenge, Team Rockyboy (Psyborg, jpo1, and myself) designed the Focke-Wulf FW-42. This canard format medium bomber was designed and wind tunnel tested prior to things fully going to pot in Europe, but never developed full scale. Focke-Wulf tried to sell contracts for the plane to Germany, Japan, and Russia but didn't close a deal and shelved the project early in the war.
This is sized for Power Pack F motors (2206) or Power Pack C as a single pusher so it's simple and affordable to build. It has a wide flight envelope from smooth and gentle to powerful enough to deal with a good bit of wind, along with all the best aspects of a canard design being nearly stall proof. I's also simple and fool-proof enough to be a good second or third plane for someone, or even someone's first DTFB build if they already have flying experience.
Why go for so simple you may ask? 'Cause I want a whole bunch of people to build them!
In addition to the plans in tiled format, there are printable skins too. And if you have access to a laser or needle cutter, try the gcode exported by the Easel tool here to get your 3 sheets of foam cut http://easel.inventables.com/projects/KB1zU34DuBojtJqOJVP4EQ
If you want to use the skins, you'll need a way to print out Arch D sized sheets - 24"x36" or larger. Personally I use Staples Engineering prints service https://www.staples.com/sbd/content/copyandprint/engineering-prints.html - about $5-$6 per page. Don't use their photo quality printing! Only the Color Engineering Prints!
