I also want to mention Hotwax's Early Aces. These are also great aircraft to get into the era. While I have not built any they are good examples of what you can do with foam to make these airplanes.

Rasterize, it would be cool if you could make a custom skin for the Baby Baron escort planes for Flite Fest. Let me know and I will get you the CAD files for it.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Pop those bad boys my way as well as any color scheme examples you may have in mind.

I'm in the initial stages of designing the 1/12th scale Fokker D.VII biplane. (blah blah blah) So, it looks like the D.VII might be a reality for FF'16.

Ooooo! (<the sound that the aliens in Toy Story make upon meeting Buzz Lightyear) Skins for this too!

Found a pretty decent picture of a G.IV wearing lozenge camo.

Check your references... that is a G V... Big difference was the location of the engine pods and the tail shape, Ruined IMO. The pods were elevated on the V and had a much prettier tail. This lozenge is for night bombers and mine will be a dawn patrol aircraft so I need daylight lozenge. I'll dig for a reference aircraft. If I do not turn anything up I'll make something up as I go.

His references seem accurate. It actually says G V (b) right there on the picture. ;) The tail is very different. I wonder which one flew better.

Depends on the application ;) the larger engines on the G V could haul more bombs. The tail surfaces were increased in area so it likely had better yaw and pitch authority.

Loving this build. Good news, you've given me a few ideas for the ol' Jenny. Bad news, you've given me ideas... ;) I'm stealing your struts. Interesting that a 1/12 gotha has 26" more wingspan and only 50 more square inches wing area than my 1/10 Jenny;. It sounds like they fly about the same; what's your all up weight?

Tench: I'm not sure what the AUW is. Never measured it because it was so light for the wing area I was never concerned with the loading. I was much more concerned with the CG because these birds usually have a very narrow margin for error.

If anyone has a cough, I have a lozenge or two for you. :p That ruler is 48" for those interested in the size of things for this project.

I finished up the other engine nacelle. I added the screen mesh at the front after the folds were made. It turned out much better than the first but I'll live with it. I also got the fore and aft sections of the fuselage cut and joined. I gave some overage on the aft end and removed foam to make the paper overlap on the inside of the seam. Joined them with hot glue and peeled off the paper for the outside. It was then that I realized I needed to just print out all the lozenge I would need for the project. 6 sheets of each pattern for the wings alone... so 12 of those sheets above are for the wings. I may be able to get the fuselage top and sides with two sheets but it may be easier to just make one big print. One sheet of the other color for the bottom. Plus I'll need to do the nose.

I'm re-verifying that my plans are correct as I go. I'm still working off the templates from the prototype. Only minor things were changed, like tabs and score lines.

If you'd like to fly in the patrol I'd be more than willing to throw an electronics ready baby baron together for you before hand. Just say the word.

I may take you up on that :) Or maybe I can bash one together at FF. I'll see what Rasterize puts out there in the way of skins.

Yeah, the honeycomb lozenge I have seen before. I prefer the 5-color lozenge over that and the 4-color lozenge. I think I'll just put some crosses on it and throw on some numbers and letters. Nothing fancy. I want the finish to really pop.

Some color scheme options that I could adapt to the Baby Baron. Should I just start on all of them and then start another thread to post them? Or should I let you girls each pick one and I'll make and send it to just you so you don't "all end up going to the same party in the same dress" kind of deal. :p lol! ;)
Just thinking the "gaggle" would look a whole lot cooler if each Baby Baron was different.

Or send me something you like and I'll get to work on it. Samples with at least fuse and wing views appreciated.

Ooh. They're all purdy, but I like the top middle D.VII the best (blue with checkers) with the black and checkered albatross a close second.

That checkered one is cool. I also like the yellow and lozenge one as well... I have this thing about yellow airplanes don't I?

So, who is volunteering to be the squadron leader to wear flags? (see a close-up of the yellow one for what I mean)

I'll jump on that if no one else has a burning desire to take it. I might be flying a D.VII, so we may have two squadron leaders in the formation.

We'll also need a squadron name for the FT jagdgeschwader 1.
