This looks SO FREAKING AWESOME...
When Overstreet finally releases his Master Series Kit, it's going to pale by comparison!! 😜😊😄

Seriously, this shows dedication, hard work and Art. 👋👋👋👋👋👋
Merry Christmas🎄🎅

Thanks! I hope this one turns out perfect, but I guarantee Overstreet's version won't take 2 years to build :p. A lot more people will build one of his for sure.

I've got some Polystyrene sheets and rods on order and I'll be using those, along with some balsa and my 3D printable AN/M2 guns, to detail out the interior of the tailgunner position. It wont be perfect but I want it to be convincing. For now I'm not going to bother making it move :)

Well, Santa was good to the B-17 project. Pretty much all of my gifts from family this year were parts for the Sweet Pea and I'm thrilled. My family is a bit confused by some of them but they were on my Amazon wish list so they knew what to get :)

So for the project I now have a Best Pilot's bomber captain figure. I have seen these used in other 1:9th B-17s and I think it should work great. I'll test out the fit and if he'll work out I'll order a second, along with a few crew and busts for the bombardier and gunners. The figure is plastic and the sculpt looks great. It can be assembled in just about any position. In the coming days I'll see how he fits in the mock up cockpit.

I also received a few accessories for FR Sky receivers that will be put to good use in the 17. The real "obscure" gift that no one could understand was the scale Norden Bomb-sight! When I opened it I was asked "what the hell IS that?". I replied "About 20 hours of CAD work and a dozen failed prints at least!".

Hoping to get some time this weekend to work on the 17. I started to attach the Cheyenne tail gun section but I think the temp kept the epoxy from setting up right and it fell off before I could go back and hit the joint with GG. I'll get that done and get back to sheeting ASAP.

More baby steps tonight. I had to add a former to the aft section where the tail gunner mount will attach, so while that was setting up I started mocking up the tail guns and the floor for the gunner area. For the floor/bulkhead I'm using scrap 2mm foam for the mockup and when I'm happy with dimensions I'll recreate it with styrene and balsa. Again I'm not going for Top Gun accuracy, but the windows are pretty big so it needs detailing. I'll be printing the optical sight (probably using the one from @willsonman ) and will also install the armored glass panel.

That Wing Saddle sounds like the toughest part of the Build...

Continuing to plod along here. While doing a bit of research on the real Sweet Pea airframe I stumbled across a book that looks like it will have great detail about the manufacture and history of her. According to the description: "Complete and detailed chronological history of the 600 B-17 Flying Fortress manufactured by Boeing Aircraft between February and April 1944" It covers from 42-102379 to 42-102978 and the Sweet Pea was 42-102945.

I'll be excited to see what details it has.

Shared these in the FB group but thought I'd put them in here as well. Continuing to grind along with the sheeting. I'm going to need another case or two of 1/16th balsa sheets before starting the wings

Thanks guys! No real progress last night due to a late night at work. Hoping to get some more sheeting done tonight. I did put in a big order for fiberglass (.5 and .75oz rolls) and another 40 sheets of balsa. I picked up a bunch of 6"x48" sheets that will hopefully help speed up the wing sheeting process. They did have them in 10" x 48" but the price per sheet jumps through the roof.

Planning to shoot some video in the coming days too. Need to keep the momentum up!

More progress! Fuse is just about done with sheeting. There is still plenty to do though, particularly with the wing saddle and fillets. Lots of filling and sanding to do too.

Today I'm working on the boxes for the inner wing panels. Lots of head scratching and planning so it goes together right. I also stopped by the hardware store for a big sheet of ply. The center wing section will be about 77 inches across and my plan calls for a pair of full length spars. I shouldn't need to buy 1/4" ply for a while :)

Got the wing boxes built and split in half. Took the opportunity to lay out the parts for some motivational shots. Just have to keep making progress.
