Alrighty, since I'm throwing my name in the hat for this lovely challenge, may as well post up what I've been working on.

This is my first entry, there may be more as time permits:

Name: Mercury V1
Power: FT 1806 Motor with 6x4.5 prop on Tattu 2S 800mah battery for preliminary tests. Then moving on to 3S 850mah or 1300mah battery and 5x5 prop. Don't really know what I'm doing here, ha
Construction: 95% DTFB, some 3D printed parts for motor mounting, control horns, wing hold down, etc. and a CF tube for spar

Should be just a shade over 300g with the 2S battery ready to fly but it has a pretty big wing so should (hopefully) be able to handle the heavier 3S batteries without much problem. My motor mounting arrangement should allow swapping to a larger motor relatively easy though I'll have to be careful with the CG.

825mm span, tip of motor shaft to tip of vertical stabilizer about 765mm

I'm not too keen on my wing and wing hold downs, but at this point I just want to get to building something, I've done extremely little with flying fast so this is more of a learning experience for me than anything else.

Some screengrabs. It's not a paint scheme nor am I colorblind, I merely use different colors to denote different materials.

Ok, purchased 8 sheets of DTFB this evening, that's enough for 2-3 planes, or a lot of screw ups.

New props and batteries showed up today, new battery charger showed up yesterday. CF wing spar material isn't here yet but is on the way. Ordered a telemetry capable Rx and GPS module for my Radiomaster Tx, it won't likely be here for a bit, but I can always test fly with other stuff for a while.

Drawings have have been printed out and my 3D printed plastic parts come off the printer within the hour.

Should be able to at least begin construction tonight.

Very nice. Looks alot like a smaller version of the JH Sharknado. If your not sure on the hold downs, look at his mounting design for his. Should be pretty easy to print something similar for yours, and also more aerodynamic too. I know at speeds, the aerodynamics make a several mph difference.

Well that's certainly interesting! With as much as I've been on JH's website lately, I'm surprised I didn't come across that!

Lookin good! Those flaps should help with the heavier wing loading!👍
Not quite done yet, but it's getting there. Should finish tomorrow.
Also if you have enough channels available, setup crow landing flaps. It will make landings much slower and easier on these types of planes. There are a bunch of YouTube videos, and pry some posts on here as well, on how to set it up if your not sure.

Looks like they are the only wing control surface so I think they're ailerons, even if they are inboard of the norm.
Ahh. Now that I zoom in on the picture, I think you are correct. Never mind the crow idea. Interesting. Not a bad idea for a speed plane. Will definitely keep the wing twist down. I'm curious how they will work at lower speeds. Can't wait to see it fly.

Yes, you're all kind of correct. They are ailerons but quite far inboard. Normally not what I would do, but if I'm going fast, I don't need huge ailerons anyways. Similar concept worked on other planes I've built.

That being said, I've got each aileron on its own servo, and I might set up flaperons like on my DLG.

I've got the build almost done, but currently stuck because I need some screws for mounting the motor and motor plate. Just went to the closest hardware store to my house and, of course, they haven't got anything that small.

Well, still a bust. Went to three more different stores around town today, one was closed, the other two didn't have anything smaller than M4. If I don't find them at the other hardware store tomorrow I'll have to order them, which in retrospect I should have done in the first place.

If not, I got a assortment of m3 from Amazon in just one day. Like 10 bucks.

Yeah, Amazon is a surprisingly good option for screws - I've been using M2 and M3 screws self-tapping screws from Amazon for pretty much all my designs
