Hey guys been awhile but im back
I'm revisiting my rocket powered glider with some good results
i first started with two designs both consisting of the same fuselage,
one swept wing and one straight wing. Today we will focus on the swept wing.
i wanted to use Etese’s rocket motor A8-3 because of its size and simplicity.
i stored the motor under the front part of the glider.
on the first day i spent researching and modeling the fuselage on Onshape taking some inspiration from actual gliders today and some experimental rocket gliders from the 40’s to 60s (ex, ME-163,Bell X-1 and X-15a2)
on the second day i added wings, horizontal stabilizer and vertical stabilizer,
the last day was mostly smoothing and adding the swept wing variant
after 3 days of modeling i came up with the final design (you can view it on my Onshape page :])
now the for my favorite part… calculations 😩
i checked how much volume was the glider itself
v=445.234 cm³
a8-3 max thrust/max thrust weight=10.70 newtons(2.4lbs)/85 grams(3.oz)
when i checked The density for pla filament it was to heavy
(Pla)D x V= 801g aprox
I found a better filament tho
LW-PLA density is 0.40cm3
445.234 cm³
i got an estimate on the whiegt it will fly
est weight is 6-8 grams if LW-PLA is used
Update day 2
added guide rail on the straight wing rocket glider
im getting tired typing rocket glider so from now on ill call it the RG3D.A
heres the link to the model
RDG3D.A-S: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/4...3be9ff00ac94baa32e/e/c78b96362bff10974385224e
RDG3D.A-D;
OK more math
i looked up some other rocket motors and here are some (powerful) choices
Estes 18mm rocket motors
*c6-5
a8-3
b6-2s
Estes 24mm rocket motors
*D12-5
*E12-4
*these rockets are their own models they do not work with other gliders*
heres the glider class rating
A class- for 18mm rockets
L class-for 24 mm rocket
A2 class- for twin 18mm rockets of the same Rocket
L1-foR the d12-5 rocket
L2-for the e16-4 rocket
BIG UPDATE APRIL 9TH
i made the first variant of the mini rocket glider
the Fish(because of the resemblance of a flying fish’s head)
it is 12inches in length and a 17inch wingspan
now the math for this one is tricky
i put in the formula to figure out how much the fuselage alone will weigh it gave me 3 different results based on infill of the LW-PLA used
here is the results
also this is just the Weight of the glider fuselage.NOT THE ACTUAL GLIDER
I highly suggest using anything over an A3-4t 13mm Estes rocket engine for sufficient 1:1 power to weight ratio for this glider.
4/13
current list of gliders

after looking at videos of the d-12 and e-16 rockets back-blast it has alerted me that the glider could and possibly
EXPLODE DUE TO THE BACK BLAST . I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURY TO SELF OR DESTRUCTION OR DAMAGE OF PROPERTY.YOU DOWNLOADING THIS MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND THE HAZARDS AND RISKS OF THE L1 AND L2 VARIANTS OF THIS PROJECT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME FOR QUESTIONS PLEASE DM ME ON FLIGHT TEST FOURMS FOR PROPER SET UP, USE OF GLIDER, AND OTHER QUESTIONS REVOLVING AROUND THS PROJECT.
