I'm currently working on a Mighty Mini T-28 Trojan. I'll post the plans this Monday.

Sweet, looking forward to it. The mighty mini size has been a lot of fun so far.

Video finished. Got the plane closer to the camera this time. I need a cameraman with a zoomable lens. :D

Got 8.5 minutes out of battery before I landed with the 4 blade 9x6 prop. Probably could have gone a couple minutes longer at moderate throttle, thrust was almost equal to the 11x6, but some efficiency was lost.

Ok, that took longer than I wanted it to. Kept redoing things and updating the plans. I want this to be easily repeatable, and scale-able. I think I have nearly accomplished that. I'll have to post up the actual build outline later as it's time for bed. Got to travel for Christmas tomorrow.

So, this will be easy to scale. I'm thinking of simply putting out several different sizes to fit the various FT planes that are good float candidates. The main center float on the Zero seems to not really be much different than any other generic float, it's just massive.

It's also not that hard to build now that i've worked out the bugs. I think if I draw out some good foam gauges to help line parts up the build will be very fast. There aren't that many pieces, and aside from the big pieces it's mostly straight lines. Everything gets coated with packing tape, and with the internal structure and hard wood mounts on the interior it is incredibly strong.

Beta plans still need a bit of work. Needs some gauges made so that all bends are repeatable. and I haven't done the bitty side ones ye Those should be easy though. Here's what the look like now:

42" A6M Zero Floats Beta v.2

Temporary install with tape. Old landing gear still needs to go away.

Ribs:

Rear Wire Mounts:

112 grams for this giant one. Not bad considering. It's less weight than a Go-Pro which this plane would handle without blinking. I over used hot glue on one of the mounts cause it was hard to get to on the prototype. That's fixed for the new method. I also only had really heavy wire. If I had piano wire or something stiffer I could go with smaller gauge stuff.

Ignore my bad taping job please. :D A lot of it got put on after the fact because I kept tweaking things. If you build a set of these, putting the tape on before folding and gluing will make things look a lot prettier.

Thanks for the info! Do you have prior drafting experience, or did you just learn how to design models/plans?

No problem. No real prior experience. I played with cad a little bit to move some windows, power outlets ect.. for the blueprints to my house. I've learned a lot more just designing planes.

If you want to learn to do it, it's not hard. Watch a couple YouTube tutorials on basic cad drawing and you'll be set. Airplanes are mostly straight lines with some curves thrown in here and there, so not a lot to learn.

Have a Safe Trip. Merry Christmas and thank you for your contributions to the FT Community.

No problem, it's all fun. Merry Christmas!

I'm waiting on my sister so I had time this morning to finish the little side floats and have the float plans revised to v.4. This version has pretty much everything you need to build a complete set of floats. Still needs some work of course, and some of the tiny supports aren't drawn out yet, but they were just scrap foam pieces I trimmed to fit.

Heh, the rudder even works.

The little side guys would make excellent landing gear replacements for just about any FT plane if all you care about is snow. I don't think I would have had nose over issues if I had been using something like them from the start.

Beta Float plans v.4

21 grams. Exact same weight as my first ugly attempt, but with a lot more surface area and better bevels. This thing is also incredibly strong. Once again, a good portion of the weight is that heavy wire.

Once again, Merry Christmas everyone. Gonna take this with me and see how it flies later.

Saw a calm patch on the river on the way to my brothers house soI had to jump out and see how it floats. Seems spot on. Didn't want to fly without a recovery craft though.

This is one cool Warbird. Printed out the plans, now to start cutting. Great job on everything. Would like to put my vote on a BF 109, great plane or even a P 40 Warhawk. Two great planes to try out. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Thanks. Turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

Make sure and follow the changes talked about in the thread. The hatch and formers are slightly too wide (just trim the sides down), and I added 2.25" more undercamber area to my wing.
