Alternative ESC and motor for power pack B

I am looking to build my first rc plane (Never flown before). I have decided on the simple cub, using the free online plans. But because i am in europe getting the power packs is very expensive. I have a receiver/transmitter and a couple towerpro SG90 servos (should be fine?) but i dont have a motor, ESC and battery. So:
What motor should i buy? Any brands to avoid/prefer? what sizes can i use? only 2212? Is getting higher kV bad?
and also any tips on choosing an ESC are welcome.
Thanks

Welcome to the RC addiction! Since this is your first plane it's best to stay with a design and equipment spec. that is known to work well otherwise when you have problems you'll be left wondering why, was it the motor change or esc?. Here are the "B" power pack specs:

  • (1) Motor - Radial 2212-1050kV
  • (1) FT 25 Amp ESC with XT60 and 3.5mm Bullet Connectors
  • (4) Flite Test 9g Servos
  • (1) FT Servo Y Harness
  • (4) FT 20cm Servo Extensions
  • (1) Linkage Stoppers (6 Pack)
  • (2) Propellers (9x4.5)
You can find a comparable motor and esc on Amazon or aliexpress. Your SG90 servos will work just fine and they are inexpensive when you want to buy more. For the Cub you'll need to watch the overall weight. Members have said that foam board available in Europe is heavier than the Adams foam board available in the US that the Cub was designed for. Heavier foam board will make the Cub tail heavy and unless you get the center of gravity correct by adding weight in the nose your first flight will not end well.

Hope you have fun!

i cant get the FT stuff since shipping is very expensive for my country. Plane motors are a bit limited in my country so i need to know what i can get away with. Do i need a motor of the same dimensions or can i get something a bit smaller/larger and is a bit higher kV fine?

Try to get something close to those motor specs. What foam board are you able to get?

Is an EMAX CF2822 1200kV good? it is 28.5 x 30.6mm so its a bit larger than the radial one.
For the foamboard i definetely have some 4mm thick foamboard but i dont know about the weight. I havent really looked into foamboard yet, so is there anything i should look for?

I think that could work....But this motor would be a safer bet!
So you want adam's readi board...Anything heavier is hard to fly. (That's the stuff you get at the Dollar store.)
BTW just a thought, you do what ever you want. But my brother and mys3elf have always found the Simple Cu difficult to fly even though it's a beginner plane....We have found the Simple Scout a MUCH better choice. (There are plans for that too!)

Thanks for the response. The motor you sent is not available in my country. Since availability is a problem for my country is there anything specific i should look for (Higher kV, lighter, or different dimensions)? As for the foamboard adams redi-board from what i can find is a bit less than 300gsm and for the foamboard i have, i cut out a 10cmX10cm piece and it weighed either 2 or 3 grams (scale error) which means it is either 200 or 300 gsm both of which should be light enough right?

You okay with getting stuff off aliexpress?

That is actually the one I have found too. The difference between the emax motor i have found is like 8 bucks from the xxd ones. Why should i go for the lower quality motors for that small of a difference?
I can find an EMAX GT2215 1180kV and an EMAX BLHeli 30A esc on Aliexpress. What props and battery would you recommend?
