Apprentice STS, RTF with buddy box in expert mode

Hello, we have an Apprentice STS RTF and are using it with a buddy box connected with a trainer port cord to a DX6. It is working perfectly except for one small issue. We have both transmitters set for the experienced mode (red light illuminated). When the instructor with the DXe presses the trainer button, the flight mode briefly goes to beginner mode (green light) before going red. During the green light, the control surfaces move to try to level the plane.

I have tried making the DX6 as the master with the same result. I have also tried reprogramming the DXe channels for gear, aux1 and aux2 from slave to master. I have also contacted Horizon Hobby support and they haven't been able to help me.

If I remember set up your DX6 as your master with all controls and switches set up on the DX6 and then use the DXe as slave and all functions should flow thru the DX6 except switches as the 6 has more channels then the DXe as that only has 4 and I do not think the switches will transfer over.
Use corded programable master in the DX6 to set up the plane and bind.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did this test and got the same result. There may just be a glitch in the flight controller that makes it go to the beginner mode as a default. Or it could be something with the panic button function also being on the same button used to give the student control.

Well then try and change the panic button to a switch.

Yeah you don't want to have two different things on the same switch. The transmitter doesn't know which one you want to use. That's why we have so many switches on our transmitters.

Are you saying the dxe only has 4 channels?? I have dxe and it can operate nine channels. The dx6 actually has less channels than the dxe.

My DXE that I use for my sim only is a 4 channel transmitter it has 2 switches and that is all.

Really?!?! That's crazy. Mine had up to nine channels. Did yours come with the sim? I bought mine as a stand alone remote. That's probably why they have a different amount of channels.

Technically it can only control 4 control surfaces if you have the basic DXE but they call it a 6 channel radio and can only program 1 plane at a time as it has no model memory.

The radio I had had a ton of switches. And it may have no model memory onboard, but you just use your computer or phone.
