Aura 5 with ER5A

Greetings,

I’ve got a radiomaster ER5A and the Flite test branded pocket ELRS radio. I’ve tried setting my ER5A to sbus and I just can’t get the aura to show connected to the receiver.

Can someone confirm the connections? I just connect the aura’s bus port to the receiver’s servo 2 port?

Any tips? I’ve wasted so much time I’m tempted to dump all this and get a receiver with built in controller.

There should have been several cables that plug in to the port on the side of the ER5A. There should be one with a three pin servo like connector. That is the one you want to use. Plugging in to the PWM ports will NOT work. It must be the serial port.

The ER5A has no such serial port. In its web UI, it has some settings for switching the PEM ports 2&3 into SBUS. This is mentioned in a flite test video, I just can’t get it to work.

You must have one of the early ER5As. I have one around here somewhere. I'll see if I can get it set up.

Did you try PWM port 3? If the PWM ports are used for serial, one will be RX , and the other will be TX. you want the TX port to "transmit" to the Aura5.

Can you take a picture of your ER5A web page where you configured the serial port?

Thanks, I’ll try that. My battery just swelled and failed, so I knew to get a new one before I can try this again, or rig up a power supply or something. Appreciate the help.

I have been looking for my OG ER5A for two months now. Seems I buried it good when preparing for Flite Fest, gave it away at Flite Fest, or just flat lost it. BAH.

Simpler solution which I HAVE used with the aura 5 is to use an ELRS serial RX like the XR2 nano or XR1-2400

For reference, after wasting hours on the ER5A, I got an email back from RadioMaster. EVEN THOUGH the configuration UI for the ER5a shows SBUS, indicates which PWM ports to use etc. It is not compatible with SBUS.
I ended up buying one of the nano receivers, we'll see if that works! Thanks for you help.

Yeah, I still haven't found my first gen ER5A, but am pretty sure it was the wrong chipset to do serial on the PWM ports. The newer ones have the better processor.

Oh cool! Just found my ER5A in the bottom of my flight bag where I looked 10x before. Appears dumping everything out was better for locating things than moving things around in the front pocket. I have it set up in the WIFI interface for serial. Now to test........,

SUCCESS!!! My ER5A settings page is above. I am on ELRS version 3.5.2.

NOTE: The Aura 5 board and the configurator sometimes need to be completely restarted after making changes. I found that rebooting was necissary in this case, INCLUDING restarting the Configurator!!!.

TX (PWM2) is connected to the S.BUS connector on the Aura 5

ELRS serial "SBUS" connection to FT Aura 5. Most of the newer PWM RXs have a dedicated serial port rather than using the PWM pins.
