One I dont think ill ever need a soldering iron for the field and at home im not gonna be doing any heavy soldering and dont really need a soldering station..
Were they Hakko brand? There are a lot of inferior soldering pens that look alike and I've used them too and they don't last. This Hakko has survived over 6 years of daily use in an industrial environment.

LOL, like most other things you can have good or you can have cheap. If you buy one $15 soldering iron every year for 5 years it costs you $75. If a $45 iron lasts > 5 years... Which one is cheaper?

Only reason for the stand is to put the iron somewhere it wont burn stuff or have the handle get too hot to touch or hold the knob for variable temperature maybe perhaps blinky status lights.. Anything else it does would be bells and whistles.

I LOVE my Pinecil. Before I got it, I thought soldering was some sort of dark magic that I couldn’t master. As soon as I got net Pinecil and a roll of Kester 44, I started getting perfect solder joints almost immediately. It heats up in seconds, maintains even heat, doesn’t take up any space, and I can power it with one of my RC batteries if I need it in the field.

I bought one of these a few years ago. It was recommended by a friend and fellow forum member. I have not regretted that purchase. It meets all my soldering needs. Even the ones I did not know I had, till I had a station capable of doing all the things this one can.
