Almost ready for the final assembly. I went for a completely white tail on this one.

Beta 1.0 on the left Beta 2.2 on the right. Some of the additions for Beta 2.2 include:

  • Added the C-fold in the nose. Adds some strength and about 1° down thrust.
  • Fuselage sides increased in height by 1/4" to account for power pod down thrust angle.
  • Vertical stabilizer and rudder increased surface area by 25%.
  • Graphics updated to a more authentic German iron cross.

Hey Dan, really dumb question, where does the rudder servo go? I built mine light, but I'm finding myself missing the rudder function on verticals.

The rudder servo is actually supposed to go in the most rearward slot. It is in a similar position to the bloody wonder's elevator servo. The elevator servo on the Baron gets glued to the aft bottom fuselage.

Not a dumb question at all. I haven't really gotten that far with the build instructions yet. The Rudder servo ends up going on top where you probably have the elevator servo right now. The Elevator servo gets glued onto the bottom of the fuselage top plate. Here is a picture from the Ugly Wonder build thread showing the elevator servo.

You will need to move the control horn to the bottom of the elevator for this.

Dan, do you remove tape under the wing and elevator before glueing together? I taped the whole fuselage.

I try not to put the tape where it will need to be glued together. It's easier than trying to remove tape. You'll probably end up pulling up some of the paper when you remove the colored packing tape. You DO NOT want to hot glue on the packing tape though. It won't hold for very long.

Kinda late getting back to you Sponz, but wanted to let you know that printing directly from adobe (custom size 100%) sorted the issue as we suspected =) Hopefully I'll be able to start cutting plans and building soon!

Awesome, and thanks for taking the time to report back on your findings too.

I'm trying to make time tonight to cut tiles and get everything ready. Sponz, did you have a chance to throw up a tutorial on how you're getting the plans onto the foam? I think you had a method you were planning to share. If not, can you post up an abridged version?

That blog post should make it clear enough for now. Also, there are a couple picks and a little bit of direction in post #27. I really need to get an article written on creating templates with poster board. Thanks for the reminder.

Very clear! I managed to get everything tiled, and mostly rough cut last night... however the very last bit I needed to tape (top and bottom rows together on the wing page), I hit the end of my scotch tape roll halfway across and ended up with tape stuck in random places... ugh. NEEDZ MORE TAPE.

I also need to pick up some more posterboard, since I only picked up enough previously for actual use on models.

I feel your pain. I've done that more than a few times myself.

One thing I do for larger pieces (for example, the wing on the Bloody Baron) is to splice two pieces of posterboard together with scotch tape before applying the plan to it.

Hi Sponz,
I am just curious. If this were to be flown 3 channel would you select rudder or ailerons?
LooseBruce

For a 3-channel model, use aileron, elevator, throttle
For a 4-channel model, use aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle

Without any wing dihedral, an RET configuration would fly once, and probably for a very short time. ;)
