Build Your Own Parts With a DIY 3D Printer

Gents,

I am currently working on a homemade "Reprap" 3D printer.

A reprap is a 3D printer capable of making plastic parts of your own design. These devices can be built in your home or garage.

Check out their main site here: http://reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

The reprap project is open source and full of helpful "do it yourselfers," just like you find in the RC Plane community.

I believe the two hobbies go together great! DIY 3D printing can be used for all manner of RC parts!

Check out these fun videos about reprap and other reprap spin-offs (maker bot etc.)

If you get parts hard enough, you can do horns, mounts, hinges, props, etc! Custom made canopies!

I have been thinking about building a Reprap for a long time (since their first version came out)
I have also considered a phlatprinter or similar.

My wife thinks the kid is hilarious too :)

I hope to build a reprap under $300. This might be doable with scrounged parts and home made electronics... We will see.

I will spend real money on a 3D printer when they are commercially available (eg. At Walmart; not $14,000)

I just ordered a RepRap printer from RepRapPro :)

Adrian Bower, the actual inventor of the opensource RepRap Program just joined forces with eMaker to produce and sell RepRap machines. RepRapPro is the name of their Newley founded company.

I donated $675 to the RepRap cause, and in turn they will be sending me a RepRapPro Huxley machine kit for Christmas! How sweet is that!?

Last time I visited, about 80 kits remained available for those who want to donate.

If anyone else is interested, here is the link to donate and receive a machine: http://igg.me/p/48972?a=305953&i=shlk
