Maybe an oversized FT Old Fogey for stability? I know its basically the same as the FT Old Speedster. I'm sure it will work with the right prop and proper CG. Doesn't hurt to try. I was just out with my Old Fogey with a 1300mAh.
I think you are right. Old Fogey may be the way to go. The plane is for my father for Christmas to get him in to the hobby. I just finished a Bloody Wonder but it is way too fast for his first plane. So I am looking for other options. The limiting factor is that I have a 2200man 3s and only 2 servos. That is why I was hoping an Old Fogey would carry the weight.
Anyone else have any experience with this? Or other designs I could look at given my limitations above?
