Carbon cub s+ GPS issue

Hi guys have problems with cub not locking onto satellites.
The elevators are waggling but that’s as far as it goes.
I’m out in the open so should be getting a signal and there’s no electrical equipment or magnets near by.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The signal on GPS is so tiny that half the time it is not there. Not an issue at couple hundred megahertz, but can be attenuated to nothing by rocks, trees, fences, metal posts, cars, even orientation of the antenna since it is less than a 1/4 inch full wave. More than you needed to know, I suppose, but it means something in or near the plane is blocking signal or something in the plane is making so much electrical noise the radio is effectively deaf.

Carbon fiber is effective in reducing/blocking radio signal. I suggest placing part of the antenna outside the plane

When I was flying a 50cc fully carbon fiber plane, the ground check caused very erratic pulses to the receiver and the problem was resolved by mounting a external receiver with a long distances(3ft from the receiver, in my case). That should resolve the elevator waggling.

For the GPS, it probably the same. So try moving it around to see if you can find an area inside the plane, (my guess is that you might even have to mount it external, to work)
Don't ever fly a plane if the ground check results in a servo is jumping around or oscillating.

+1 on carbon fiber blocking radio & GPS signals. Carbon also is conductive, be careful with bare wires shorting out.

Thanks for the feedback guys 👍

Worth noting that the HH Carbon Cub S+ is NOT a carbon model. It is a small foam replica of the full scale Carbon Cub. It has a couple of carbon spars in it, at most.

The OP does not have a carbon related signal problem.

What radio are your using?

It found the signal, but the problem is some electronic device is shouting at max deafness volume into it, every so often.... A half inch difference in location should be enough to be making it work as the full antenna length for those frequencies is .15 inch

I have a DX7 gen 2 . I have recently flown plane and it did lock on to sat signal don’t know why it was in the open same as the other time when it couldn’t find the signal

Just curious we have been getting some really large solar flares and wonder if this can be contributing to the issue?

Yes they could, but probably not unless they sunspots are messing with the ham bands, which we are kinda adjacent to

Yes; I experienced this myself recently. GPS told me I was 1/4 mile from my destination. As it stopped speaking, there was the sign! I slammed the brakes and made a too hasty turn in.

On-topic; I ripped the GPS unit out of my Carbon Cub. All I want is Safe-mode. I WOULD like a launch assist like Aura 5 but we can't have everything. The reason is that I ONCE tried the autoland. Kept it out of the trees, but not happy.

Needs cameras to avoid stuff that are not defined. Trees are generally not defined and you don't seem to be using artificial intelligence to fly it with cameras.

Trees and telephone poles can move at supersonic speeds to snatch your airplane out of the sky, you'll never see them move then all of a sudden, it is trying to eat your plane
