For a while I was trying to decide whether to go with Core XY or Cartesian...I opted for Cartesian as the belts would be shorter so they shouldn't stretch as much.

My laser has a rod that connects the Y steppers directly together so they don't get out of sync and be at different depths.
Yeah, I noticed that...That's why I will have homing stops on each end and the board is a newer one that has two ports for the Y so that they can be driven separately.

Whacha all think? Will a one bolt on each side, holding the extrusion to the corner post be enough? It's a 1/4" bolt and I plan on it tapping into the extrusion:

Use t nuts. It is just simpler with extrusions. Also I had this idea while ago, and keep wanting to build it but never do, what about PVC pipes for linear rods? For these low loads should work well

I think it could work pretty well, just I hope to add a router to this someday, and I just like the looks of extrusion better😂😂

the controllers I have start where you have the head. The stops are limits only, and not for calibration/homing

Anyone got pics of the center head on their CNC?
I've tried three different heads; the original, one with linear rods and bearings and this one, and this is my favorite. I put an 1/8" aluminum bottom on it to act as a heatsink and thread better. On the top X axis wheels I used eccentric spacers to more easily take the slop out of the slider. Probably the best two mods were putting a 12v cooling fan on the drivers (no more pausing when it gets hot) and put in X and Y homing limit switches.
