Mine only have a single stepper per axis. It doesn't need to provide force against a part being machined so it makes sense.

The tool is easily swapped and height is adjusted with two set screws. My bigger laser frame only had a 5W laser which was not compatible with air assist.. This smaller one had 10W which worked with air assist. Swapped the heads between the racks effortlessly.

Smaller frame sits in a "needs enlargement" bin. LOL

So, a little change of plans....This was getting too expensive for us and we were considering calling the whole project off then we remembered that we have about 50ft of 3/4" gas pipe from when we did some remodeling in our house a few years ago.....We are going to use that for our CnC rails as that's free and will knock about $50+ off! Also we won't need V slot wheels as I will be printing out custom wheels. So this is what I have so far with the new design:

This is pretty basic. I use these belt clips from Inventables. There has to be something similar somewhere else, though. But if not you can get them direct. You'll need to be sure your belts aren't too wide for the slot.
The bolt/nut is used for tensioning. The belt goes under, through the slot, over and down through the second slot back beneath the first slot. I use a small zip tie to lock the teeth on the belt to each other and then tighten as needed. Last time I needed to change a belt was 9 or 10 years ago.

I found that I can save even more money by using the bearings out of some old roller blades!😁 (They are the exact ones I was designing around, as ChatGPT had said that are the cheapest for 5/16" bolts are on almost anything from 3D printers to skateboards.)

I am still looking for my old rollerblades to harvest them for parts. I should still have two tubes of bearings around here somewhere too but I may have used those to rebuild my bike rollers.
