Going for her maiden tomorrow at the indoor fly in Seville Ohio! Made this safety transport case out of Azac and superglue. It's actually pretty tough.

Well, it flew great! Smooth and predictable, but needed to be nose heavy. Tracked remarkably well and needed zero rudder trim. However, I ignored the warnings to avoid the hvac ducts blowing from above and eventually paid for it. Head-on with a vertical I-beam, on the open side so there were multiple focused impact points. Also, very old wood and very old tissue add up to a very brittle model. 🤣 She's toast, but the next one is underway, and I will not fly this one in a room with columns...

Glad it flew well - not glad it lost to the beam.

Glad it flew. Hmmm A/C is like trees and telephone poles.

Next one paint the wood with either mucho thinned elmers or dope. That helps with the brittle, but from what I remember, the wood in Comet kits WASN'T all that great to start with. Could replace it with 2sheets of modern grade C.

It's alright, these planes are disposable anyway. There were a few quality flights before she ate it. I'm actually thrilled with how well it flew, it was my first foray into vintage scale micro rc so I'm more encouraged than anything. My next project is the Ercoupe, it's similar in size but slightly more robust structurally and this experience has taught me a few important lessons.
