Tonight I added the CR Touch auto bed leveling capablity to my Ender 3 V2.

It took about an hour to install the hardware, load the fimware, and then calibrate.

So far so good. 20211021_212323.jpg

Note: Yes... I know I have stringing issues with this particular filiment. Still working out the retraction and temps for SUNLU PLA+. Believe it or not, what you see is way better than it used to be.

I went the other way and disabled the auto bed unleveling. My sensor broke so I did a manual bed level and everything is all good again!

Auto bed leveling can be good, but a good manual bed leveling in addition to auto leveling will put the first layer over the top!

Cheers!

PS: if you are using a raft, all that auto leveling doesn't matter. Auto Leveling is all about the first layer and adhesion.

100% agreed. Based on the instructions, the intent of the product is to fine tune a bed that is already satisfactorily level. It just tightens tolerances. Its not a replacement for initially calibrating the machine.

If you haven't setup mesh leveling, you should give it a try. I also recommend "baby stepping". I have a bltouch sitting here and I really don't see the need to actually install after doing the mesh leveling method. I use mesh on my cr10s and my Gantry S (ender 3 clone). I had the Bltouch on my old Anet A8. This of course, depends on the display you are using as some of the touchscreen displays require programming for those features. I am running the old 12864 reprap displays with the encoder.

Thank you for the tip! Funny you mention this... the Matter Control slicer I use actually has tools to help you walk through a few different leveling techniques. I must admit that I hadn't really explored this capability in the software. I usually just do the standard "Front-Left, Rear-Right, Rear Left and, Front Right. Then I pick a couple of random spots in the middle of the bed to make sure its level across the entire bed. I use a feeler gauge to do this cold then, heat the whole thing up to temp and see if anything has changed. I use Z offset if it has and then re-check. I have Polyurethane bushings under the bed so temp doesn't change my level much... if at all but I check, it anyways.

I basically followed this video when I installed the CR Touch. My install pretty much followed this example exactly.
