1st day for combat wars, what a blast but we did use up some planes including the new Smooth Baron, second round she was in a midair collision.

The wing took a hard hit and it is still in one piece

On to plane #2 it suffered a broken motor shaft and just tore the front of the plane off

Plane #3 the Harley Hustler suffered a hit to the elevator and a third of it was missing and the control horn was hanging on for it's dear life, it was a handful to fly but it did get a kill and landed safely .

That is hard to watch well at least you had fun. I’d love to take part in an air combat, maybe some day with the kids :).

Our club is having its Spring Picnic tomorrow, and it was decided last weekend that we needed to have a combat session tomorrow. They sent out an email saying to bring our old "disposable" planes for the event.

I don't have any planes that are old and wore-out enough that I'm ready to consider them "disposable," so I think my role in the combat tomorrow will be that of photographer.

I think I'll suggest, if this goes over well tomorrow, that next time, they plan far enough ahead that those of us without a huge hangar full of old planes, could do something like put together a sacrificial FT foamboard plane for the occasion.

My wife joked that I could use the brand-spankin'-new Freewing 64mm A-10 (that just arrived yesterday) for the combat tomorrow. While she was kidding, she didn't realize that part of the aerial combat is trying to cut your opponent's crepe streamer with your propeller. It's kind of hard to do that with EDF planes.

Very cheap entertainment if you ask me, little bit of foam and glue what is it worth? Most of the time your hardware survives so just swap it into the next build.

This was from December. Left futaba not long after this crash. Locked it while going full throttle. I put a red bottom in it producing 1024g of thrust when the plane weighed around 400 grams. Flew about 80-90 mph strait down. There was a sickening whump!

Would this setting (0%/60%/115%) be a good idea? I will do the elevator settings after maiden and Tests.

My latest crash!
So what am I going to do with my free just for myself afternoon I asked myself. Having the kids were with my mother in law picking strawberries and later going to sleep there and my wife was at work til 23. It’s to windy to maiden these for the first time, plus it’s been a while since I last went flying. So what plane can I take? What is the quickest to get ready the Simple Scout or Edge 540. Edge 540 won considering it was just missing a motor and ESC. Flew one battery on it prefect, expect for a bad landing into some cabbage. Which did this.

That holds the wings for those who don’t know. Didn’t have how to fix it but decided to fly the other battery any how b/c I cared less I want to fly and have fun plus the hatch does hold down the wings as well so that might just be enough. The wings held down well but I think I had a rudder issue so I brought it down and realized that the rudder wasn’t responding and on off side so I disconnected it and straightened it up. Kept flying only with elevator and ailerons, flying close and low until I got distracted by a bird that was flying close to the plane and crashed into a metal fence. That ended the day with a lot of damage to repair :).

No worries I’ll repair it at some point.

This WAS kind of a 'lawn dart.'
@Stevo430687 is that perforated tape you're using? Like medical tape? If it is, it has no tensile strength. It's made to tear easily at the perforations and is just going to separate in nice clean lines. There is no added protection with that stuff. Heavy Duty packing tape, or even regular packing tape would go a lot farther towards protecting the plane.

That being said, that's a rough crash. It LOOKS like it "lawn darted." What happened?

4s mini mustang
So today I had my worst crash yet... I was flying my 4s mini mustang when I discovered a new trick where I just pushed full down and full rudder and the plane flipped around like the trick that peter did in the seawind review. I did the trick 2 times without any issues, but on the third attempt the plane got stuck in a spin and I couldn’t recover. After I crashed though, I just laughed about it on the way to the wreckage.
I would post a picture of the plane but it landed in a large area of tall grass and I couldn’t find it :(
