curb side cub

hey guy's, my brother in law brought me a busted up balsa cub nearly a year ago. i just hung it up in the man cave and forgot about it. well ive been building and flying flight test planes for a year now. i wanted to build this holiday weekend so i got the cub down an before i knew it the major damage was done.
i am going with electric on this ans am having trouble getting clear answers on motor selection.

I would ask do you know what the original motor was!

If it was gas multiply the engine capacity, (in cu in), by 2000 for a motor wattage.

If unknown then weigh the craft and use a motor selection guide of between 100W and 200W per pound of weight! 100W/pound will give a slow lazy flier and the 200W/pound will give very spirited performance. Propeller, Battery and ESC to suit the motor selected.

Just a thought!

Have fun!

the motor was gone. and the trouble i am having is that i read that is should go with the same amount of thrust as the plane weighs, if i did that rhe motor would be massive. the planes auw w/ electronics is about 5.5 lbs. and then i would read i should go with 100 watts per pound. so i will try your suggestion and go for 200w per pound. Thanks
