Howdy folks, this thread is about successes and fails for cutting foam board with diode lasers. I just got a tyvok spider x1s 20w laser cutter, (it’s huge, with a 2000mm x 800mm work area) and am going to share my journey of trying to use it! I’m also working on an enclosure for it. (I wonder what the cheapest material that is somewhat flame resistant is…)

I thought about making an enclosure a out of a file cabinet turned on it's side. I currently have one of the prefab Creality soft ones that is lined with a reflective material, has a fan, Orange windows, and I vent it outside. This fits my 410x400, but will probably modify a 2 drawer filing cabinet when I build a frame that will cut a whole sheet of foamboard. (excuse the mess, it is buried as I am working on purging our basement.)

I also have a 400x400 honeycomb and stainless sheet underneath to protect whatever is under the cutter. (currently also 1" plywood with the honeycomb recessed in a cutout)

I am looking forward to your adventure, as far as flame proof could look at fire resistant drywall that is required between house and connected garage.
I was just at Home Depot to drop off dead lipos and get touch up paint for my durafly spitfire. Had a look at that while I was there, definitely an option 👍

Mess, what mess? You should see my basement 🤣
I was VERY selective on how much mess was in the pic. LOL. I do at least have a path that can be wiggled through to get to this corner. I can't currently get to the file cabinets on the other side of the pool table which is covered in mostly RC kits/ 3D printing supplies.
