DIY-Magnetic Prop balancer..

Decided to have a bash at constructing a homemade magentic prop balancer...

I had bought 11 x 4.7 slow fly props which I was unable to balance in the normal cheapo manner

I had to add a cutdown rawplug to the metal rod so that the slow fly prop would fit snug, as It just wouldn't work with just using the rod on it's own..

well, here is my attempt... will try and get a little vid to show it in action..

Cool. I tried balancing props on a screwdriver, but it didn't really work. I prefer balancing my props directly on the motors.

Cheers.... I am no expert.. on the motor prop balancing sounds like a bit hit and miss (for me anyhows...:(:(:( )

I will stick with the mag balancer... I have just discovered that the end of the metal rod was touching both magnets, think I need to shorten it slightly... :):)

it's good fun hacking things together to save a bit of money.. :applause:

It is hit and miss. But if you have a perfectly balanced prop and a perfectly balanced motor but your prop adapter is not balanced (and also hard to balance) then you get vibrations back again.

I've been meaning to build one myself using strong magnets and a hand-held cheap balancer. But in the end I think I'll spend so much time and money on it to make it perfect that I could have bought one from the beginning... Maybe except for that I'd like to have it foldable and small to fit the toolbox.

Would it be possible to take a self-balancer (like those in cd writers), fit it together with the prop on the motor, run it and then afterwards see how it set itself and make corrections from that? Like car tire shops have this even more automated.
