How did you Impregnate the balsa with epoxy? Did you thin it with denatured alcohol? Sounds like a handy technique!

@Jackson T - have a look at this post - I use a domestic Vacuum sealer to bag the parts then add a flat board on top with weight!

Thanks! How did you get such a thin layer on the balsa? BTW, what are you going to use for hinges?

@Jackson T - I just rolled on the epoxy and blotted it with paper before Vacuum sealing it - I will use my mini cable tie method for the hinges - the cable ties are PP and act well as live hinges once I knock a V into the centre.

A little more sanding but coming together . Glad I didn't throw my little jig away for setting the dihedral.

@Wildthing - I am out for a week with work so I will not have any more progress till October kicks in - yours is looking good though - with the second wing I made, and given the ailerons are bottom taped, I also tapered the tips from about 20cm out.

BTW - I ordered an iron so I can try the shrinking film!

I am just slowly tinkering away, weather permitting I am busy at work right now, people getting in a panic to finish their projects before winter hits.

For the covering I am just using the cheap HK iron on stuff, price is right and because it is the only stuff I have tried I don't know how much better/lighter the good stuff is .

About 375, it will somewhat depend on the foam you are using though. I did find some types melted a little easier then others. Oh, covering is no on by the way

Well it is together again . 1 9gr servo for the ailerons, yes I know it's not super aerodynamic but??????

@Wildthing - I recognise your aileron technique from the Baron - How is the CG - mine was tail heavy before the rebuild, but the second attempt is looking much better! 😀

It is better but still a tad tail heavy, used less weight to balance it but now I am going to move the cg back a bit , then try to find some tall grass and see if it just glides before I try the discus launch.

@Wildthing - I tried glueing the foam with gorilla glue to the PLA as a test for mounting the wing the other day - no go fell right off - how is your wing mounted?

Small bead of hotglue with a little UHU Por as a backup.
