Any advice on choosing retracts? Or where to get them? I've never done retracts before, and on HobbyKing and Banggood I'm not coming up with much. Either they are for suggested models and don't give many details, or they are the retract without wheels or suggested wheels.
Thanks!

I saw a guy on here that had retracts with the foamboard. Something like this.

I step away from the forum for a couple of weeks and you guys are already planning 2018! I LOVE it!!!!!

Maybe its time I dust off the 101" B-25 project after I fly the Mig-21 and complete the Prowler. Maybe...

Here's an idea. A FPV setup would allow level bombing with a leading bombsight. Possibly with stabilized flight. A job for a bombadier with his own transmitter.

I would LOVE to see this developed as I have had the same thought. It would be an amazing thing to allow anyone to try dropping a bomb in a pickle barrel. Any coders out there???

Excellent!! And glad to see you snagged Jim into the build too!

For anyone else working in a team environment, Psyborg and I are having pretty good luck with a free online project site http://asana.com - it at least helps me (a project management geek) with keeping thoughts in order on tasks, timeline, sketches, and notes - and I'll ask Psyborg to chime in with his thoughts, but I think it's been helpful.

Periodic progress and plan updates to the build thread are still key for the community fun, but this tool fills a slightly different communication need.

I am an old dog and Asana is new. I don't like learning new tricks but since I am an old dog the memory isn't what it used to be.. Maybe the Psyborg needs a memory module now who knows. But yes I am getting used to it and It is nice because all the discussion is always there to go back to if things get over looked. You can post drawings and other things.. I even made a quick idea in paint and posted it right up for Rockyboy to see.

Over all I think you guys should look into it. It has quirks and the navigation needs help but once you get over that hurdle its a good tool for things like this. Even if you area solo designer / builder I think it could help organize ideas and thoughts.

Shhh someone else may steal my secrets... Don't tell no one but mine will be done with head tracking if I can figure how to set the goggles up with the TX properly.

Hopefully PsyBorg does not set it up to assimilate the users...oh wait that was the Borg not Cyborgs. LOL

Yes! Please jump in with our challenge, or design and build something awesome anyway! :)

Also, I wanted to ask if we could get a signal boost on an upcoming podcast for this challenge - there are a lot of people who aren't on the forums but who are interested in these group builds.

At FFE I heard many times from people who wished they knew about the International Air Races challenge, but since they are only youtube/podcast community members they missed it. I'd like to get the word out as wide as we can for this challenge, and it might get us some more forum community members too! :)

Thanks!

... and any if not ALL of the participants can also broadcast this as well. The Gotha gaggle had the same response and I did try my best to try and get the word out for the races this year. I even started WAY early last year and spreading the word is THE most difficult part of this.

I will tell everyone about that for sure. Many peoples joined the FT discord server after Peter's last video so maybe there will be participants coming from there.

Quick update on my mini XP-50 design.
I've not made an individual thread for it, I will do that once plans are ready though. But I've designed, built, and flown an XP-50 for mini sized electronics. I'm using 2206/2500kv motors, but it could fly easily on an F pack or an A pack as well. You'd just have to have the battery a bit further forward, it's sitting directly on top of the wing right now.

Alas I'm reconsidering my entry...I found something else that is crazier, but ironically easier (for me at least) to build. That, and it meets the thing about having multiple pilots. In the meantime what should I do with the DO 635 thread?

Save the DO 635 thread for after you get the new design completed and you're ready to work on a second entry :p

Let's do it

Anyone up for a carrier landing challenge? Pretty sure I could figure out how to rig up some kevlar string on a sprung wheel for those willing to put tail hooks on :p
The XF5F clearly has a tail hook so let's do it.

Alright my friends - it's been several days since there were any comments or questions raised about the guidelines and restrictions, so I think it's time we transition this challenge from DRAFT to Final!

I'll be posting the official challenge thread shortly, and will link to it from here once that's done.

I ask that everyone please remember to post your entry in the new thread so I can keep track of all the great projects you are working on.

Also, as a community we'll have a whole directory of new designs for everyone to check out this way:)

See you on the new thread soon....
