I do random gravitychecks
Hello, I was given the opportunity to review this quad by banggood.com. This about half the size of a V212, or a 100 sized quad.
Packaging:
I quad comes in a fairly small box with a clear plastic mold protecting it. The package was also wrapped in a thin white foam and in a grey bag, this protected the box and it's contents very well.
The Quad:
The H8 3D has an all plastic frame which houses the flight control board and 4 motors. 8 screws keep the bottom of the frame connected to the top. Once the screws are removed you can slowly slide the motors out of their housing and separate the frame exposing the wires and flight control board(be careful as the wires are very thin). The quad is matte black with a touch of bright green, I think the color scheme looks great compared to all white like most quads are not. It also has blue and red LEDs for orientation, red for the back blue for the front.
The TX(transmitter):
Very similar to the CX-10 tx, but it is bigger which is a plus for me due to having large hands. The front right bumper controls “3D” which will flip the quad inverted. The left bumper controls rates low, medium, and high rates. Clicking the right stick causes the quad to flip when using the right bumper rather than going inverted. Clicking the left stick puts the quad in headless mode(leds will flash)
Flight:
I've become very familiar with flying quads this size but am always a little nervous to fly one for the first time as I do not know how stable it will be. Once powered up I took off in low rates, the quad jumped into a very locked in hover. I began making slow circuits with the H8 and felt very controlled in my movements. I switched to medium rates and had the same results. At this point I was throwing everything a could at it in medium rates, I like to do this to test the ability of the FC to keep up with rapid changes in pitch, roll and yaw all at once. It handled everything with ease, then I switched high rates. At this point the quad became very responsive and fast, this mode is good for outdoor use or in a very large room. Inverted flying is very good, much better than the X4 3D. The quad does not have as much thrust invested though, so be prepared for that. I'd give the quad at least 3 feet of altitude before going inverted. Flipping the quad feels very stable and locked in.
This quad has become my go to mini quad, its predictable yet fun to fly. It seems to be very durable, I've crashed it several times with no damage to the plastic frame. It would be a very good bigger quad being that it so light and comes with prop guards are ready attached.
Pros:
Durable
Unique paint scheme
Very fast or very slow
Inverted feels locked in
Headless mode is simple and easy to use
Cons:
Charger cord is toyish
Though the transmitter is bigger I'm used to the standard style of Txs
6-8 minute flight times of a 60-70 minute charge.
