Eclipson Model 3D

This is my 2nd Eclipson plane, with the first being the Gö Wolf. I printed that one in the Polymaker LW PLA (prefoamed). This is my first build using Bambu PLA Aero. My first prints weren't great. I was using the downloadable Bambu profiles on Eclipson's web site along with using the Bambu PLA Aero preset for the filament in Bambu Studio.

Extrusion was fine but a big lack of layer adhesion.

Was able to find a profile on the Bambu Labs Wiki specifically for printing planes and that turned out much better. It was a 50% longer time to print though. A wing section that previously printed in 2 hours, now took 3. Ugh.

Took me around a week to print while working from home.

At this point, just missing the motor. Turns out the FT 2814 I had from my wrecked FT 3D XL did not, in fact, come out of it unscathed.

I gotta say, this is so enjoyable to put these together since everything fits together perfectly. Very different than my foam board builds :D

And the hinge system on this is just awesome.

Here's a comparison with one of my more recent foam board builds, the 13th Squadron's MXS. The MXS has a smaller motor, 2216 vs 2814 for the Model 3D. The MXS weighs in at 740g while the Model 3D weighs in around 950g, both without battery, but everything else.

it's like night and day, although the nose shape, paint and wheel cowlings give the eclipson an unfair advantage in looks, imo.
weight is an issue with 3D printing?

We'll see if the weight is an issue soon! The glider that I printed in the pre-foamed pla, which is heavier, flew a lot better than I thought it would.
