EleksMaker Ideas

After reviewing the EleksMaker setup and review by TechDaily here,

Skip to about 3/4 the way through and this guy cut foamboard clean through by using a 2.5w laser. Cuts look really clean, so Ive read on the FT forum that lasers wont cut white foamboard, therefore what if either:

1. A sheet of darker paper or maybe even newspaper is placed over the foam and stuck in place with sowing/embroidery pins. Would that laser then cut through the paper and foamboard?

2. Using white foamboard, maybe paint it a darker colour like grey, would that work?

The idea here is to eliminate the reflective nature of foamboard.

I'm no expert when it comes to lasers.
It's my understanding it's the whiteness of the foam that is the issue. Here in the USA we can get DTFB in several colors of paper outside. The foam is all white. The laser will cut the paper, regardless of the color, but is stopped as soon as it hits the white foam. To be cutable with a small laser, the foam would need to be colored all the way through.

To cut white foam, it takes a 40+ watt laser.
