ELRS range is great

Yesterday I was flying my Sidewinder around. There were a few other people in the air with me. My radio kept saying “low telemetry, low telemetry”, but that happens sometimes and so I didn’t think much of it. But then my motor cut out and I realized that I had lost signal. It came back after a couple seconds though, so I came in a little closer and kept flying. Well, it happened a few more times so I landed to investigate. I was flying with a larger battery than I usually use (a 4200mah 3s works fine in a Sidewinder!), and I figured that I must have touched the antenna with the battery.

So I take off the battery hatch, take out the battery, and see… my antenna laying disconnected inside my plane. I had knocked it off the receiver when I crammed the battery in. I had been flying for about five minutes with no antenna at all. I wasn’t flying particularly close, there were other fliers around, and I’m in the city, yet my ELRS receiver held it together well enough for me to keep flying with just a few momentary glitches. Impressive!

TL;DR, antennas are apparently optional for ELRS. 🙂

Hey glad your enjoying it. I broke the rx antenna off of one of my quads once and it took me a few batteries to notice. I am always amazed at the range and reliability you can get with ELRS.
