Well, being an unemployed graphic designer does mean one thing—plenty of time to pursue my sketchy ideas!
The pic on the right is about as close as ChatGPT could get to visualizing my plans (done in AQdobe Illustartor) before I finally gave up and called it a variety of names. Wingspan 16.5". Fuse length 17"
Before I commit any more time to actually building this thing, what do you guys think—will it fly?
I'm also undecided on pusher vs. tractor, which is why I haven't added any motor slots yet.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Reasons this is a terrible idea that will only make me want to build it more?

Should fly. Easy to get the COG right with that long nose. Elevons on the bottom wing only I suppose? Pusher would probably work, again because you have that long nose to get the COG right. Might need a bigger than normal battery up there. I would imagine that the second set of wings will make this act as though it has a single wing that is twice as big, so the elevon surface area will have to be fairly large. Did you make the X extra tall to give it more yaw stability?

I’m curious how any of my guesses will turn out. Please continue! 😁

Edit: ohhhh… EZ… huh. Well in that case, probably tractor. You don’t have much weight to put up front. Obviously on the bottom wing. At the expense of weight, you could put a horizontal piece of the fuselage to give extra lift and move the COG forward. Guesses again.

A larger version would definitely be cool, especially with a few structural changes to stiffen everything up and make the X-wing layout work properly.

But for some reason the EZ system has been living in my head lately, so right now I’m really curious how far I can push that simple setup and still make something recognizable and flyable.

I may have to revisit a bigger, more conventional version later though. 😁

Have you ever thought about binding 2 sets of EZ's systems together to allow you to stiffen everything up and fly? My motors are on the same plane, were your's has 2 parallel planes(above and below) to mount motors. Suggest tractor. Might fail flying if one battery falters if flight, or perhaps one larger battery.
Other concern is the long nose section. Needs to be real stiff. My SR-71 had that problem until I fixed it.

Have a video if you would like to see my "2 deuces".

Have fun!!!!

Thrust line could be interesting, might almost need to mount the motor halfway between the wings.

Pusher seems easier to achieve CG with - might even be able to mount it where the lower pair of engines should be if the props have enough clearance to help counteract that long nose.

That’s a really interesting idea. I hadn’t thought about tying two EZ systems together, but I can see how that could stiffen everything up and give me more options on motor placement. I like the tractor setup idea too.

The battery issue is a good point. I’d probably lean toward one larger battery if the system can handle it, just to avoid one side dropping out in flight.

And yes, the long nose is definitely something I’ve been wondering about structurally. Your SR-71 experience sounds pretty relevant.

I’d absolutely like to see the video of your “2 deuces.” Send it over!

That’s a really interesting thought. I like the idea of using the lower engine position as a pusher to help with CG, especially with that long nose. I’m also wondering if the two ideas could be combined somehow—use a motor position closer to halfway between the wings for a better thrust line, but mount it as a pusher between the wings on a separate structural support.
That might give the best of both worlds: better thrust alignment, some help with CG, and a stronger center section.
Definitely gives me something to think about. Thanks for taking the time to sketch it out.

Here is the dual EZ system. Pushing the limits from just above stall to how fast and high it can climb.

Thoughts and suggestions:

Discussed about nose above, how are you strengthening your wings and how far out are you going to place the motors?

Built and fly an EZ bi-plane and solved wing strength as well as motor positioning. Remember the length of wires to motor, gyro and battery has fixed limits of were you can put them to get CG at mid throttle. noticed I added an arc to get the proper CG in all 3 axis. Moved the motors up 3 times to get it to fly right. Sure glad we use foam and glue and a hot iron to replace the ribs.
