Explorer Core Modification

Hi All; I love my explorer, but a 9" prop sometimes "digs" into the boom. I thought about adding about 3/4" (20mm) OR 1/2" (12mm) to the height of the core. I know which pieces I will have to extend or modify, but how to???? This will solve the prop problem and allow a bit more space or the battery. In either case I am NOT going to sell the modifications. I'm not sure about sharing the plans here.

1. Redneck way: Just cut the two core plan pieces in half and add a "filler" piece to the plans, or add a doubler to the inside of the pieces (not optimal)

2. Go whole hog and redo the plan pieces using software. Difficult and not very easy as my ossified brain cells don't work very well anymore.

Same problem for me. I increased the height of the power pod. I found out on the first flight that I needed to change the thrust angle to compensate for raising the motor. I think expanding the height of the fuselage above the boom would probably work as well.

If you change the up thrust angle to a bigger value it "might" fly better under power and not have to build a new pylon to clear the prop

Here’s my suggested solution. You can thank me later. 😂

I suspect you had to make the motor mount point more downward toward the nose to make the prop thrust closer to the CG... Is this correct?? I have a 9x7 prop. it SCOOTS!

It has been raining so much here in PA that I am thinking of building a boat.

That's correct. Took some trial and lots of error.
