EZ Pack - DIY Weight Question

Hello all. I'm a tinkerer, CNC, 3D printer, laser cutter guy. Have built a handful of planes (some more successfully than others) but I've wanted to really scale down and make some super simple planes with easy differential thrust. Finally got around to ordering the EZ Pack to play with.

Question - is there a general max weight for the EZ Pack V2 motors? Like stay under 50 grams, 75, 100? Probably depends a fair amount on the design of course. Anyhow, looks like a fun thing to goof around with. Also wondering if folks have made any balsa gliders and slapped the EZ Pack on it?

idk, but found this:index.php
Target Weight Range: Like most models built for the Flite Test 2-channel EZ Power Pack system, keeping the All-Up Weight (AUW) under 55 to 60 grams is required for optimal performance. Exceeding 60 grams prevents the plane from turning effectively due to the limitations of differential thrust steering

Thanks. Yeah, I did a lot more poking around and found that range. Super cool little pack to play with. Looking forward to playing with some designs. With the Flite Test folks recovering from Flite Fest though, it might be a week or so before the kit gets here.

One added factor, you can bind 2 EZ units together and then make yourself a 4 engine plane. Again, the lighter you make it, the better it performs.

Have fun!!!

I agree.
As with all things Aeronautics... there are variables. The original freighter was 55g. It flew for 18 min. The V2 has more umph. and can generally support a little more weight ~65g. There are 2" gemfan props you can swap... and I heard it gives you more thrust which would allow for even heavier planes.

I did a Walk Behind Glider that was "heavy" but it's all lift and designed for slow flight. In that case it worked well.

Either way it creates some interesting design challenges

Very cool. So many possibilities with the EZ V2. My mind is racing with ideas. I ordered two sets of the EZ Pack. One of the orders includes the little transmitter. The other pack is just the motors, battery, and control board - I'll bind it to my Radiomaster Tx16.

Another off the wall thing I was chewing on was this - so, there is another output on the little board for LEDs. Could this be run to a tiny micro servo to flick a control surface at a pre-set level? Maybe kick an elevator to do a tight loop?

Nice. And cool idea about having two sets of motors....hmmm. Now my mind is really going. Could double up some settings on the Radiomaster.... more thrust opens up more ideas. Very cool stuff.

Awww. Now that is adorable. Electronics aren’t here until next week but just doing a little laser cutting tests on Dan Sponholz Intruder 15.
