Sorry, a couple more questions.

On the elevator wings, as you are showing on your version 2, the rear wings have double thickness foam board. So to cut in the elevator, I guess you cut the double thickness and keep the elevator with that double thickness right?

Do you think installing a rudder would be a plus?

A rudder would be a plus, though not very necessary, unless you're good at knife-edges. ;)

I think you understand the horizontal well enough. You could actually make just the fixed portion double-thick, and let the elevator hang off on its own as a single thickness.

Question to Mid7night on aluminum adhesive. Ben, I saw that you are using this adhesive type on your plane. I have been using that also but I wondered if using too much might not have an effect on radio transmission or reception on the plane. What is your opinion on this?

Too much, if it blanks out your receiver antennas, could impact your signal. Be mindful of that, and watch that you don't let any exposed wires near the aluminum!

I was thinking about using it for the tubes around the EDFs. It is strong and adheres well. It looks like you used electrical tape there?

THAT'S AWESOME! Dude, that looks a thousand times better than any time I even built it. Well done mate! I hope the maiden goes well!

What's the C-rating on that battery?

I think I'm going to add a simple wire landing gear. It will be better, with this size, to roll it out for take off instead of hand toss it.

Lightweight gear is a great idea, especially for the maiden.

Don't know if that's quite enough output capacity for that battery, I'd be concerned with over-draw current. Double-check the amp-draw of the fans, to be safe.

Absolutely LOVE the F5 and you did a spectacular job on this! The F5 is one of my favorite planes to fly in X-Plane

Really need to work on my plank skillz this year so I can do more than pile drive 'em into the ground!

Cheers!

A bit late to the party but an awesome plane you got there Mid7night!

Also litter bug do you use this (https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/41686-f5ecf116a/&page=2&tab=comments) F5? This is the one I use my self and it flys very nice!

Epilogue - Maiden Flight: After failing with a 4S battery, I switched the ESCs to 80 amp and added a 5S battery. The F-5 took off just great and flew for about 3 minutes. Then both EDFs shut off and the plane just went nose down. I suppose that I did not have enough ventilationon the ESCs or the motor, or my 70mm EDF motors were not strong enough for the ESCs and battery. So there will be a rebuild and some more mods coming up.

I haven't done anything to that magnitude.... But, being in Ground RC for over 35 years, one of the things I've learned is - if you know you're running hard....

If you think that 80 Amp ESCs will be fine, GO WITH 100!! ;) Or 120!
If the KV is too high on the Motors, 5S or 6S might fry them.
Maybe go bigger case size and lower KV than you have now.... Volt Up and push more Thrust, Safer!

There's People here MUCH more experienced in RC Flight than I am, who can better give specifics.
But if it helps at all, this was the basic, nuts and bolts advice!

I'd love to see that Baby ROAR!!!

Hi Ben.
Do you have details on how to make the ducted fans on your A-10. Is like to do the same.
Thanks in advance.

Not really detailed, although I did give an overview and description of what I did in one of my videos on it before it flew. I used an early version of what is now called the "BDF", and just mounted it inside the wood frames inside another foam duct. When the BDFs are officially released from Flite Test, I'm sure we'll do something more formal on retrofitting the FT A-10.

I think it was this video:

Thank you very much Ben. Really appreciate your help and all you do for the community.

One more question. Where can I buy this fan, and especially with that housing. I’ve tried to find some online but failed up to now.

It's not for sale yet. I designed the duct/housing myself, and Flite Test is working on making them into a Power Pack option, especially for their upcoming jets designed by Overstreet and me. The files are not online either yet, but they will be in time.
