In the past I have posted progress on a 70mm EDF F18 I had been working on, but I feel this latest version needs its own thead. Hope you don't mind😁😁

After Flite Fest I got to talking with Josh about a new Jet that could take advantage of a number of power plant options. I have been busy with other planes but finally had a chance this week to bang out a couple prototypes.

This F18 is a redesign of my smaller F18. The goal witht he latest revision is to make a Jet capable of accepting 90mm, 70mm 64mm EDF as well as the new BDF(Ben's Ducted Fan)

I built two prototypes, the first with a pair of 90s and ine with a Pair of 4" BDFs.

I still need to finish up the tail of both aircraft. I am hoping for common components for all variants. You will notice that the one with the 9mm has added spars to handle the higher stresses.

Anyway, here are a few shots of what I have so far.

These are beautiful. I, like many here, are eager to dive in and build these beauties... is there a release schedule?

How does the 4" BDF vs. 90mm (3.5) EDF I'm assuming the BDF is a 2205 ish motor?

FT Spitfire?

Also while the F-18 is one of my less favorite 4th gen jets, this is a nice looking model. Any idea what it handles like? the real F-18 could turn pretty mean but it had a high wing loading.

Is Flite Test working on an EDF swappable power pack? I find it more difficult to get into EDF compared to props because of this.
EDF's sort of become user preference, huge differences between brands and even different models of the same brand for the same size. Personally I like 12 blade fms, but others will like 5 blade metal units. Some like 6s others 4s. Where as a normal power pack has little preference, a 2215 is a 2215, get same size of motor from anywhere else and it will be close. At the end of the day edf's are a little more complex, a lot more challanging to fly, and take a little larger investment in batteries and motors. Often needing at least 4s and requiring a 50c rating to deal with the high draw for 3.5mins of flight time. A power pack is possible, but will most likely have very low volume sales.
