This is my Great Planes Big Stick, powered by a 5065 motor and 6 cells 4000 mAh.
104_0193.JPG
Great flyer, but not 40 size and not a swappable.
To power a 40 size version I need a 3536 motor or even bigger. My first step is to modify the powerpod for taking a bigger motor.
104_0216.JPG
I added to the standard powerpod a second firewall some 10 mm longer .
104_0217.JPG
The new firewall is only fitted with tape, strength comes from the 3 screws going through both.
104_0218.JPG
The hole for the axle is enlarged.
104_0219.JPG
Without the lugs you can't mount the nuts at the sides.
104_0220.JPG
There goes the powerpod.
104_0221.JPG
Space for a 2200 mAh 3 cell,
104_0222.JPG
or a 2800 mAh 4 cell.

To be continued.

This looks good and I will proceed.

I am enjoying your build Mr.Hotwax. If you remove the paper from the inside of the fold, the board will have a smoother bend without much loss of strength.

Hi aiidanwings,

thank you for your proposal.

I like the bends, as on the original "Das Ugly Stik", they produce turbulence, hopefully making the plane behave better at the edge of stall.

By the way, I can't remove the paper as with the original Adams Board, at my board bonding is much tighter. If I try, some paper stays on the foam and bending doesn't get smooth..

Thank you very much. I'll do my very best.

104_0271.JPG
No more clips in the box
104_0272.JPG
Elevator downstairs,
104_0273.JPG
rudder upstairs
104_0274.JPG
Tailfeathers come together
104_0275.JPG
Hope it will last
104_0276.JPG
I wasn't shure about the hatch. Balancing Shows, it needs weight up front
104_0277.JPG
The servos are digital, so I go for 11ms
104_0278.JPG
New motor is a 3548 1100 KV, prop 10 x 6E
104_0279.JPG
CG is ok now
104_0280.JPG
Ample room for the Rx.

It weights 1400 gr + ESC + Landing gear + Weels = 1600 gr?

After a sunny day at the flying field, not much progress in the workshop.

104_0287.JPG
Detected a possible weak spot.
104_0288.JPG
Made a fix.
104_0289.JPG
Cured it (hopefully)
104_0285.JPG
4 rudderhorns
104_0286.JPG

104_0290.JPG
1 mm steel and zipties
104_0291.JPG
Lacking some elegance.
104_0292.JPG
But hey, it's a prototype and hey, it works.

One more finger burned.

I am entering the finals!

The material is Hobbycolor by Guttagliss http://www.gutta.com/html/fileadmin/user_upload/pdf/guttagliss_hobbycolor/Prospekt_9500239_Hobbycolor.pdf
104_0294.JPG
You can treat it a little with your heatgun
104_0295.JPG
and bend it at an edge. In this case it was my metal ruler.
104_0296.JPG
Too flimsy for a landing gear but will prevent the wires bending backward. 3mm steel wire will take the load
104_0297.JPG
Zipties are my special friends
104_0298.JPG
Wheels 70 mm
104_0299.JPG
That will do the job
104_0300.JPG
Cheap parts from house installation.
104_0301.JPG
for fastening the wheels
104_0303.JPG
distributing the load
104_0304.JPG
No rubberbands! Will be a medium to advanced trainer!
104_0305.JPG
Propeller clearence is good
104_0307.JPG
magnetic hatch
104_0308.JPG
Blocks take more torque
104_0309.JPG
Still swapable
104_0310.JPG
Only the ESC is missing, weight with a substitute 1600 gr

We are awaiting one or two days of rain. Hopefully the ESC arrives soon.

I will report

Today is the day for the maiden flight.

A quick calculation says, that the black motors gives nearly 1 hp at full throttle.
This will give a nice hotrod, but I am here doing a medium trainer.
104_0316.JPG
So I stepped back to this motor giving half that power using the same propeller.
104_0317.JPG
I recomend using a plastik spinner for safety.
104_0318.JPG
What a luck, it is a swappable!

Size is 56'' span, 46'' length, weight 1600 gr
