I built the wooden H Quad frame, looks great, now I need to add all the parts. Here's the shopping list I'm working on....
1x #381000134/27109 MultiWii Lite V1.0 Flight Controller w/FTDI = $26.29
4x #TR_P18A/4312 TURNIGY Plush 18amp Speed Controller = $44.04
2x #AM1003A/67 4mm Gold Connectors 10 pairs (20pc) = $4.94
1x #9171000033/23140 Hobby King Quadcopter Power Distribution Board = $3.99
4x #D3536-81000/18228 Turnigy D3536/8 1000KV Brushless Outrunner Motor = $67.60
4x #HKz30A/13429 HobbyKing 30A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller = $41.88
1x #TX-9X-M2/8992 Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver (Mode 2) (v2 Firmware) = $53.95
3x #T2200.3S.30/9394 Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 30C Lipo Pack = $41.37
1x #XT60/9572 Nylon XT60 Connectors Male/Female (5 pairs) GENUINE = $3.15
1x #TGY-3/8247 Turnigy 2S 3S Balance Charger. Direct 110/240v Input = $11.44
1x #BOX-439g/10561 Extra Length Cardboard Box and Packing 439g = $0.00

besides the tools for building, what's missing from the above list? Are 30a blue series esc's and 1000kv motors a good match, or should i go with the 18a plushes? Plan on eventually adding FPV and gopro. I have a macbook, will i run into programming troubles with kk board? not sure i understand the need to program esc's, do i need to purchase something for programming these? What about battery shut off or a notice, is there something for this i need to purchase? Hopefully I'm not getting in over my head, any advice is appreciated!

You will need props and remember, you need two left hand and two right hand. If you want different colors for the front you will need 4 different props. As far as your battery getting low, I use these and love them http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=18987. You simply plug them into your balance plug on your battery and they make a fairly loud beep when any of your cells get to 3.3v. Is there a reason you chose those motors instead of the DT750s? The max current on that motor is 30A so your at least going to want a 30A ESC. I'm by no means an expert but I don't think those would be to well suited for a quad. The power distribution board also only has 20A max output and has 3.5mm bullet connectors, on your list you have 4mm. I don't know anything about programming ESCs, but that is something that is NOT required for use (to my knowledge).

those motors are HUGE !!

get the turnigy 2830 1000Kv and you will have much lighter set with plenty of power

i see you selected 8x ESCs ... you dont need all of those !! get the multistar or turnigy plush between 20-30A it will be enough; YOU ONLY NEED 4 (Maybe 1-2 as a spare)

the prop size for those motors should be 10x4.5 buy at least 4 complete sets and with different rotation cw and ccw.

Im seeing you are serious about it and willing to invest in good stuff ... you will need a much better charger than the one you selected.

INVEST IN A GOOD CHARGER !! you will not regret !! you can start with HK- eco 6 for 17 - 20 bucks and get a better one later.... the one you selected is pretty bad :D

the standard conectors for motors of that size is 3.5mm bullets conectors.

Have fun !!

Thanks! As far as props go, I read someone complain that the props at hobbyking cracked in flight... is this because they weren't properly balanced? should i consider buying a higher quality prop somewhere? I picked the larger engines mainly because I'm inexperienced and thought "better performance"?, also availability, i'll look for the dt750s or something similiar... what esc's should i run with these motors? the 18amp plush? my plan was to buy everything listed on the hquad scratch build page, but hobbyking seems to often be outofstock.

Which flight controller should should a Macbook user get? I was thinking one of the KK boards, with a screen on it and no need for programming??

KK2 board is ideal for first quad.

you wont be breaking any props inflight because you will be busy trying to HOVER IN PLACE; get the cheap ones ... when you get your bearings and start FLYING around you might consider get APC props, but only if you fly at high speeds ... if you just hover from left to right any prop will work fine .....

i stated above about the motors you should get and the escs ..... let me do it again:

Not bad IMHO, I use that, it works - but it takes overnight to charge a 2200mAh LiPo. It charges big batteries very slowly. You want something that will fill up a battery in 1 hour... and maybe something that can do two batteries at once:

got it, thanks.... i'll be connecting the usb to my computer for some type of programming?

Yes, you will have to change the firmware if you use a KKboard, unless you get the KK 2.0 and don't want to update it. My vote is you do update it.

But I checked now and saw you'll use MultiWii - and I have no clue about that :)

The multiwii is not the most user friendly beginners board. RC Groups has many threads that can get you jump started on it. There are a few multiwii users here but not many.
