Hey all,
I am working on an fishing airplane project and could use some insight.
Mission objectives: An airplane that can deliver 12-16 oz of bait (6-8 in herring) and lead 200-300 yards out to sea and fly back. Able to land in slightly wet sand(I will avoid dry sand), pebbly surfaces without damage. Stable flight in moderate wind(10-15 mph).
I am a proficient builder and pilot. I am looking at a bait dropping system with three attachment points. One in the middle of the aircraft at the cg so once the payload is released the cg should remain unchanged. this will be the single big bait missions. Two and three will be on some outside at the cg with releases tied into the main drop so I can also do drops of lighter jigs(1-2 oz) one at a time for when I am fishing with a buddy. Entanglement is a big concern. I am wondering about adding a magnet or two on the fuselage towards the fail and then using a ring on the line to keep the line under the tail while in flight, but then be easily disconnected on release. Any other options or questions I need to be thinking about?
I am leaning toward the Ft guinea, though I have an founder ft legacy kit unbuilt. I think the legacy would need to be modified to make a large enough cargo hold at the cg point to meet my needs. What are your guys thoughts on the two options? Any issues with the wing loading? Would increasing wing span by 6 in be worth it? Does the wing need any additional supports to handle the weight? Of course any other issues I need to be thinking about?
Thanks and I will post updates and hopefully some mission success photos.
Derrick
