A quick follow up on how the “cage” fits inside the fuselage. Maybe makes a little more sense with these shots.

I have learned a newbie lesson in painting Foamboard…..go very slow….misting even…or your work wrinkles like a 70 year old Marlboro Man. And that is the paper covered areas…the uncovered areas get eaten away…..😕. That is the story of my wing. So be it…lesson learned. I will just fly it out another 10 ft from the flight line.
Another unforeseen set back….paint is hard to come by around here. COVID…supply line issues…don’t really know. So now my plane will be Grey, Purple and White….I know….it’s a real mother Fokker. Not only that, but flat and satin…almost non-existent. I plan on clear flatting out the whole plane once I get the markings on. Fingers crossed that works out.
Since perfection is the enemy of completion I will move forward.
The pictures are the wing with servos installed…preliminary paint. The side “cheeks” of the forward fuse…and the battery hatch minus the magnets and paint.
Next up..the rear control surfaces and servos.
Inspiration and motivation can be achieved by both a positive experience and a negative experience as well. Cringe worthy pictures are attached.
Keep building fellas… 35611636-2C31-4016-9EDB-5406E32BCF5C.jpeg 82298562-A097-4253-9022-095BF4A26770.jpeg F5F28597-B2CD-4410-87F7-94FC61CF1851.jpeg 32ECF297-90E1-4343-8571-5CEDC3BF3147.jpeg 8C2A3F2D-702D-44BB-992B-919C7048C6A5.jpeg

Yeah, any sort of wetness is going to make the paper wrinkle. Even applying WBPU will from the water component. Always go slow with this stuff. You are coming to the flight line (not finish line ;) ) so keep up the great momentum!

Pretty sure these things looked pretty rough back in WW1, so tell people it's scale detail and you can style it out like that! I think it's looking great!

Picked up some magnets for my battery hatch and cut out some tail surfaces.
Just pinned on for now. I need to think through the next steps. I don’t want to get ahead of myself and close off an area I will need to install the tail skid, hinged tail surfaces and of course pushrods, servos, etc.
I was thinking of installing the servos underneath the pilot. Cutting out the bottom of the fuselage under the cockpit and installing the servos inverted. This way I would have access to them if needed. Not sure if this is a good idea yet or not. Really don’t know what type of structure will be adequate for proper servo installation and operation of the tail.
So here are a couple of pictures.
The spring weather is tormenting me with high winds, cold temps and rain. So I will press on with this challenge.

Finished the tail section (yes the horizontal tail braces are not installed…).
Servos installed, tail skid and top rear fuselage closed in.
On the front end. Motor (correct rotation checked prior to cowl installation), esc and finished the battery area by adding a strap. And of course shaping and installing the cowl.
All I have left is to cover the last area at the cockpit, install a pilot, bolt on the landing gear to the attachment (paint sticks) on the bottom of the fuselage. Then paint and markings.
My expectation is to have it airworthy by next weekend.
Maybe the best thing of all was firing up the pizza oven to bake a fresh pie..😏 76CAE4CB-9A4C-4594-B44D-EC6D9982486E.jpeg 3DD9B85D-167B-421F-A5F1-66561134BD79.jpeg 8989CD06-1353-4BC6-B361-0824D9FF939B.jpeg F1E3EB46-6597-4189-AD81-CFCFB34D7093.jpeg 367D0FC9-0741-46CC-B52E-A874F52288F9.jpeg CDB1DDF6-3A93-40A1-ABC7-4AA5711801FC.jpeg

The build itself is just fine & well done. Just keep going. Been there myself & you'll be surprised once all the colors & decals R on how well it will look in the end.

Wrapping things up.
I got the initial colors on.
All I have left is to get a couple servo extensions and clamp on the landing gear.
I am going to follow Baron VonHelton’s idea (I do suffer periodic lapses of good judgement) and try to airbrush the markings. Sounds fun and challenging so why not?
Attached are the final pictures until she is marked up and ready for the flight line.
Then on to the Simple Scout XL so I can join the fun in trying to keep up with Willsonman’s creative rendition. From what I hear, it is a good idea to have an extra plane or two at Flite Fest. 2F4B9925-D2DB-4FA2-8E64-DC75ABAB931A.jpeg D6816D17-6EE7-46F0-8417-CA21871E6145.jpeg 77085DBB-3E34-464C-A08D-9F2E06B4848F.jpeg 3C3A2C85-B02B-436F-A41C-3B3D75BA3FB4.jpeg B315F273-451B-4AC6-8889-B2BA79EE0161.jpeg

That’s looking brilliant! Very impressive. Hope you have a fantastically boring and uneventful maiden! Looks like you’re getting close.
