I went to FF23 and am coming back for 2025 but I want to camp this time. Do FT have tents to rent on site or do we have to bring our own? I’m coming quite a ways so wanted to ask here first.
As LB said, bring your own tent....Do FT have tents to rent on site or do we have to bring our own?...
Do you mean camper van rental or camping tent rentals? Delivering and set up would be very convenient. As LB said, bring your own tent.
There is a camper rental near FF, they will deliver & set it up for you. I know of atleast 2 camper rentals at FF24
Yes, an RV trailer.Do you mean camper van rental...
If you are interested in renting an RV to camp At FF, I believe this is the place. They advertised on the FF24 page, even have a discount code for FF....Delivering and set up would be very convenient.
The generators were in the RV area right behind the primitive area. Maybe they could restrict it in the RV areas near the tents too. That was in ‘23 and there was a line of RVs at the back, behind all the tents. In years past, 10PM has been the cutoff for generators in the "primitive" camping area.
As for flying late, I was surprised at how early people quit flying in '24. It's been 2-3 AM in past years and it didn't make it much to 12AM most nights this year. That Said, this year I was camping by the build tent, and all previous years I was on the far east side of the camping. May have been more going on over at the far end of the field. In any case, Flying quiet away from the flight line or at center stage would be best if you are flying late.
That seems very sensible, I feel like just limiting size would help for noise reduction as well, small planes make less noise so people can still fly without preventing everyone else from sleeping. On the topic of camping at FF, there are a couple things that I’d like to see changed. I’m hoping that FT folks take these into consideration.
The first is that in 2024, there were some very loud and very brightly lit planes being flown after midnite last year. While I support having fun with night flying, it made it impossible to sleep in a tent. My entire tent was lit up every 30 seconds as the plane flew by, along with the noise. I think there should be a reasonable curfew on flying. It should be enough to give people time to do a few hours of night flying, but still give people a chance to sleep.
On a related note, please consider restricting generator running hours in the tent area as well for the same reason. Maybe don’t have the RV section right next to the tent section.
Thanks for considering this!
SMALL props spinning fast make noise. I have small and big planes that can fly almost silent. Appropriate motor and prop selection makes a difference. That seems very sensible, I feel like just limiting size would help for noise reduction as well, small planes make less noise so people can still fly without preventing everyone else from sleeping.
Maybe consider bringing some ear plugs....I'm strapping an airhorn to my rc truck in case it happens again this year....
Yeah guys, the airhorn thing was a joke. I am capable of extrapolating the self-defeating consequences.Maybe consider bringing some ear plugs.
They have always worked for me. I consider them a camping necessity.
The air horn may be effective with a generator. It likely wake everyone else, the very thing you are trying to stop. Plus it won't do anything for hoot owls & other nocturnal noises.
There are 2 kinds of people:Yeah guys, the airhorn thing was a joke. I am capable of extrapolating the self-defeating consequences.
As a guy with an RV, I'll say I purchased it so that I can sleep in comfort at night. If it's over 70 degrees, that means I'm running my AC, as I do at home. That requires my generator. Given the concerns I've heard, I booked a site at the nearby campground, but I would GREATLY prefer to just set up my RV at Flitefest and not have to commute back and forth. I'd love it if they designated a "OK to run your generators at night" area, and just placed it well away from the tents.
