Flite Fest 2025 General Discussion Thread

Hi everyone, I hope we can use this thread to post general discussions concerning flite fest 2025.

I have my campsite and am already getting excited for the trip. It's the one time of year where i get to spend three or four days with no responsibility to anyone! I love meeting people from all over and seeing the fun things they are building. I'm hoping to do a few builds this year while at FF25 in addition to the things i'm bringing already. I love watching the night flying even though i can't fly at night myself anymore because my light stigmatism has gotten really bad the last few years. I love cooking dinner with friends and strangers and hearing about the places they fly back at home. Combat is an absolute blast and I really recommend to everyone who tries to fly in every one to sit one or two out and watch because you get to see a lot more going on that way.

If you have never been, here are some things i think are good to know. (please pitch in more stuff in the comments)

The showers are great, bring flip flops...
the breakfast from the church group is pretty good
don't hesitate to ask people around you for advice
don't be afraid to fly if there are other people in the air, but maybe announce if its a sketchy build.
don't get upset if someone runs into your plane outside of combat! Bring the friends you like and the planes you don't!

There is plenty of electricity in the build tents but plugins are scarce.
Bring a short (10-20 ft) extension cord and a power strip if you can.

BTW I'm going to FF25 & will be camping again.

I think this will be my 8th or 9th FF, the 4th camping. A few years ago, a friend of mine did a FF video series. His goal was to capture the spirit of people at FF.

It is worth watching if you are thinking about coming to FF. Here is the first video.

This is going to be my first flite fest. I’m going to brickworld Chicago and it ends 4 days before FF starts so that’s going to be fun. I’m going to be hurting but it’s worth it.

I have almost zero footage from FliteFest as I just experience it as I go. I tried to get some Aerial footage with a camera on my Stratosurfer last year, but somehow the camera was either not charged and shut off immediately, or I forgot to start it. D'OH! There is however this Early Morning FPV DVR footage from FliteFest '18. Shot with an AIO camera hot glued to a RMRC Nano Skyhunter. I flew this same skyhunter LOS in combat last year.

Just an FYI, If you plan to fly FPV at Flite Fest, There is a designated FPV area where Frequencies/channels are managed. Do Not Power Up ANY FPV Transmitters outside this area. Maximum Power is 25mw, and channel use must be coordinated. I unhook the power to all of my VTXes so there is no chance of powering up by accident and stomping on someone in the air.

This is the nano Skyhunter from the video above after I flew it in combat last year. It took someone else out by stealing their pushrod. LOL

Had a catestrophic landing the next combat session. LOL Think the horizontal stabilizer fell off or had a dsmx lockout.

One of the things that I ALWAYS want to do at FliteFest is meet up with others from the forums. It is often tough to have a mass get together as Flite Fest is a very dynamic environment. Good intentions don't always work out, and communications once at flite fest can be tough. We can try to keep in touch via this thread in addition to private messages, but with the perfomance issues with the forums lately, that may not always be possible either.

I am camping at Tent Camping A2 right up front and close to the build tent and flight line. My neighbors told me I had people looking for me last year, that I never caught up with. I will be at the same spot this year! Please try again!

8PM may be a good time to try to meet up for a mass forum get-together at a pre defined spot. Plausibly evey day to catch people who may have been busy one day or another. If others have other thoughts, I am open to times and places! Feel free to PM me here on the forum as well!

Looking forward to another awesome year at Flite Fest!

Cheers!

Name tags! Big name tags with your forum handle on it. The Lanyard tags aren't sufficiently visible. If you don't have a sticker, write it on a piece of maker foam and hot glue it to your shirt 🤣

Copied from another thread on the forum.....

I think we shold have a SPAM cookout at FliteFest!
I fully believe you should make that happen!
Get all Mods/Staff members and volunteers together to help with an actual SPAM Cookout for everyone at FF25! I think it could be fun!
I would be willing to make a graphic for t-shirts, hats, stickers, etc., if someone wants to have some made.
You want to start a thread for discussion?

Any thoughts? Could be one of the 8PM meetups!

FYI, Flite Fest is held on a HUGE area. Last year was the first year I brought my bike. Now I wonder why I hadn't in the past. If you bring wheeled transport (bikes, scooters, one-wheels, longboards, etc.), please keep speeds down and respect pedestrian traffic which has the right of way.

Bring your cool bike lights too. There is a group roll/parade after dark which rolls through most of the campground.

Also, collapsible wagons are a popular item. Indispensable for transport of doomed then deceased aircraft. And if you plan on doing some shopping at the vendors, which I always do more than I planned...🙄
