Flitetest DIY Gremlins

Hey guys,

I have the TJ Williams Delrin frame running everything stock. It flies fine, but I lack the experience to see, if it could run smoother.

As far as I know, Flite Test does not provide “official” PIDs for the stock setup. Could you please share your experience? Thanks in advance!

I have one of TJ's carbon frames and it flew OK on stock PIDs. It's difficult to have "Official" PIDs where there is no official battery, FPV gear, RX etc. Any changes to center of mass and total mass will affect the tune. I'm running dRonin firmware on mine. Flies really locked in after a 60 second autotune.

Cheers!

Im running stock betaflight 3.2. On changes i made was the rc settings in betaflight (how much throw each stick gives you) and just follows joshua bardwell's suggestions

Anyone have any recommendations for prop guards or 3d print prop guards? Thanks Guys...

Probably wouldn't be too hard to modify my ducts a couple posts back. I'll have to get measurements off my Gremlin and see what the clearances look like. What frame are you using?

YAY!!! I finally have a worthy FPV system up and running on my Gremlin!!! :applause: I got the Runcam Swift 2 Micro a while back and finally found a decent VTX that is perfect for the Gremlins possibly larger quads as well. (need to test this one more as far as range and such yet.) I now have the Eachine Atx03 and this is an awesome little VTX so far. I am running it on 50mw for now and I was able to fly the play set gaps with ZERO issues other then a tad too breezy to really rip it yet.

Anyway I got a few small adjustments to do now that its set up fully. I have to adjust PIDS a touch for the added weight in the nose and I also want to widen my rates a touch to make it more like higher expo is used without using actual expo. Once I find my happy place for FPV I will post in my thread new screen shots and all that.

Final all up weight with new gear and new Pulse 3s 450 mah 45c batteries is 146.5 grams. Was ripping with it this morning working on camera tilt and all that and this was my last pack of the day before the rains started spritzing on and off.

I recently came across this after seeing an instagram post/youtube video by Cr4yt3ch. I ordered one for a 3 inch quad, but I do think a gremlin would carry it as well. The angle is pretty wide, but the light handling and such seems pretty good and the video looks good too.

I'm looking to find a way tI change the lens on it (it's currently got epoxy holding it on the threads). When I get some decent flight time in, I'll try to post some video, but thought I'd share. HD gremlins!!!

Think I'll throw a Runcam HD2 on my TJ's Gremlin for fun. Can pull the camera battery and run it off the flight battery. I've also thought about removing the battery from an HD1 to compare weight. These gremlis are pretty capable little beasts.

Cheers!

Yeah the Gremlin on 3s is a beast. I was out today in between rain drops flying mine. 12 mph winds gusting over 20. Was frustrating trying to hit the new gates without hitting them but I was really surprised how well it did in those winds. I may put up video later.

I finally got some time to make some improvements to the koopaquad! The new version has better battery support (compression fit - no velco needed!) and more room for the camera. I've also added a link to the thingiverse page that will allow you to access the koopaquad tinkercad file so you can make edits as you see fit! Let me know what you think!

I plan on make some more improvements as I have time. My wife and I are in the process of buying a house, so it may have to wait until after the move. Enjoy and share your builds! :)

Gremlin PID values

Finished my Gremlin build....now I need the PID values.

Its very twitchy.

I saw one post where someone mentioned to use 2 layers of double sided sticky tape to secure the FC to the frame. That did not work.

Here are my current settings....

Thanks guys....

When you say twitchy, do you mean in a hover or when you give inputs? My gremlins have flown great with stock PIDs. Also, check your esc calibration. Make sure to calibrate it through betaflight or blheli.

same for me. I watched joshua bardwell's betaflight 3.2 video and setup exactly as he said with stock and it flies great.

Hehehe Paul.. no wonder you say its "Twitchy".. You have rates set for 1200 degrees per second... Come back to reality and get em closer to 800 ish range mate.

You MIGHT be able to fly a 5 incher with that rate but no way the Gremlin will fly that high with such a short wheel base bud.

As far as stock pids I would be VERY careful if you fly a Gremlin on 3s with them. The motors will be super hot.

Psyborg,

Thank u,

I did a "Reset all profile values" on the PID tuning page in Betaflight.

It seemed to help, but its still a nervous bee. it wants to drift and twitch in the YAW axis. It seems that its most twitchy in only the YAW axis. I knocked down the RC rate in the YAW axis to .4 and I changed the strength to .4 in both Angle and Horizon. So far this is about the most stable.....but not near perfect. Here is a video and a screen shot of all my settings. Any other suggestions?

Thanks Psyborg for the help....I am an airplane and wing guy...I got into Tiny Whoop flying about 4 months ago....This Gremlin is my first Quad Build. I appreciate your help.

Psyborg,

I just copied over my torrent 110 PID settings, thinking that they are about the same size and weight. maybe a little more stable, but still a nervous little bee....
