FliteTest gang: show us good techniques on using transmitters

Hi guys. I am rather new to the hobby, focused on helicopters. I have noticed in videos that RC pilots use either just thumbs, or, in other cases, thumb and forefinger on the transmitter sticks. For example, in the Bomb Drop Challenge, I saw Josh Bixler using just thumbs, but David uses thumb and finger. What are good techniques in using radios?
