Foam cutting and power supplies

Just wondering if an old 35w electric train transformer is enough to run a foam cutter. Has anyone done this?

I've used a small train transformer. It worked for small lengths of wire. I upgraded to a 12/6 Volt car battery charger.

What gauge of nichrome wire is best for a foam cutter? I want to make a small bow, but also planning to have a wire about 3 ft in length for making wings
