Foamboard dlgs

Good evening everyone!

This is the result of my first attempt at building a DLG. It has a 1 m wingspan and an AUW of 142 g. I know it could be much lighter, but I had to use what was available and affordable, since most of this stuff is hard to get where I live.

I’m calling it the "Two Time" because I had to redo almost every step at least twice. It was a very challenging project, and I still need to improve my sanding skills to get more consistent shapes, a smoother airfoil, and better overall finish.

I’d like to thank everyone who chimed in with advice it helped a lot!

Good job. I always liked building and flying cheap foamboard gliders.

I know lol, I looked through most of your advice here and in other threads for years before I could build it, cold'nt have done without it. It means a lot to get a kudos from you.

Thank you for what you put out there.

Maiden yesterday, trying to learn how to slope soar and testing the build.
Many crashes and a broken wing an inch from the joint. I had no tape there just in the center,
I will rebuild the wing and add tape to test it.

Not gonna be tons of lift there, but if it's smooth enough stuff will fly there. Watch the local birds. Sloping is just fast power off flight and knowing not to add all the up trim you have

The wind was flowing smooth so I had some lift, the thing is I din't have rudder to keep pointing the glider towards the wind, whenever I turned using the aelerons it turned with more drag and it pushed me past the wave into the turbulence. Still need to find a more suitable slope, I'm afraid to launch it straight into the ocean.

Really cool slope. Reminds me of santa monica beach where they did full size hang glider training on 30mph days. If ravens and sea gulls are soaring flapless, you can fly a glider.

All my stuff is flat wing aileron, but have usually a large-ish static rudder way back on the fuse (except for my love of V tails) and generally no issues flying sites like yours. Pulling some up tightens the turns for little penalty except speed loss, one click down trim speeds the plane up a bunch which is good since everyone flys too slowly on slopes (me included sometimes)

Oh yeah, never turn downwind. turn upwind, worst case is going downslope to retrieve the plane

Then I'll give it a go again before adding the new channel. It is probably a skill isue and I need to navigate the wave a little better. I really appreciate your input as you aredy helped me a lot in a previous thread. So thanks a bunch for all the new knolage.
