Howdy all! So I have been working on designing a foamboard FPV plane modeled after the ZOHD Altus but with a 60" wing span! The goal of this plane is do long range FPV, iNAV programming (ie. RTH, WP missions, Auto launch ect ect) and more! So this is the design and build thread and I will post progress, pics and videos here!

So this is the Onshape design:

It does have a couple 3D printed parts:

Sweet! Can’t wait to see how it flies too!
Should fly good👍 (I just wait until I feel up to building it...) I am pretty pleased that it only take 5 sheets of foam, for a 60" wing span that's pretty good considering the P-38 is 57.5" and its like 7 sheets.

Neat design but I do wonder what the area is of all the bits of foam you cut away? I would guess it is approaching 20%.
To reduce such losses you would have to design the plane so it used parts, probably many smaller ones, that together exactly matched the area of the sheet. A tall order!

I might be able to condense them later and if I can't, will use those parts to build mighty mini's👍

I seem to have a thing for vtols... so if you could maybe make some way to mount the horizontal motor in the tail and clear up the wings, I could make a quadplane out of it! I am not sure how much work it would require, and I am not sure I wantt o make a tricopter vtol out of it, but it seems like hte perfect platform

Yeah, I think a with some designing on the tail I could make it work with VTOL too! (I really wanna try it sometime!)
