Hi people!!
I thought I'd post it here as this is where it most fit really considering what the subject is about.
I was given not that long ago a Skyangels 50mm EDF T-45 Goshawk (a plane I love!!), it was a car guy that decided to get into planes, and his bright idea was basically everything Josh & Josh said NOT to do in the beginner series: get something fast and nimble that looks cool. So he took it out for a flight that lasted all of 10 seconds, mnaged to get it back on the ground without crashing it, but broke the aileron and it's accompanying servo because this "belly lander" is designed with the servo controls under wing for some reason... Anyway, he decided flying was not for him and didn't even know how to fix the plane... so he announced it on a car forum as a "if you can come and get it, it's yours", and I was first to answer (hey, for a free Goshawk, the hour bus journey wa worth it!!).
Anyway, What I got was the complete model minus battery and receiver. So I added an antenna conduit to the tail internally (because I fly 35mhz... long antenna), repaired the ailerons (the other one was a little gone too) with some cardboard and a little epoxy which worked a treat, repaired the servo (he stripped one tooth from the last gear, so I adjusted it to be on the "never to reach"" side, as the potentiometer cuts out movement before it reaches, and works wonderful), changed the servo arm placement so they are now above the wing so no more damage from belly landings, added a 4 channel receiver, programmed my ailerons, flaperons, dual rates... the lot.
To do all this, I had to take it apart (the fan was catching on one side and was out of balance, so I had to file it properly and rebalance it), and then put ir all back togeather... now I know everybody has their "go to" glue for foam, and after trying different ones, I found that epoxy was the best for me.
The problem I came across (if there is anyone still actually here reading this LONG post) was that first of all, is that some of the white parts have been stained and the other is that some of the stickers got damaged in the process (they are very fragile and not at all stuck on well)...
SSo, with no further adue, my question: Is there anything I could use to clean the stains (not sure what the stains are of) off the white without damaging the foam? And what is the best way to colour the other parts that were originally decals?
I do vaguely remember something of this being mentioned in an episode I think, but the usual, you try and remember something when you need it and you can never find it. The main things are the red lines on the leading edge, and the "Navy" sticker on one side of the fuselage. I know it's not much, but the info would also be good for future reference, of course. And the colouring, if it's "user friendly" and cheap, all the better... it's been a long time since I painted an Airfix model!!
The culprate is the one in the middle... the first one is a balsa scratchbuilt Coyote coveres in Oracover, and the far one is a 2m wingspan Escuela motorglider... the great thing about being single, you only have to fight with the cat as to what you hang on your living room walls!!
